2014 Super Air Nautique 230

Picked up a project 230 today. It doesn't need much -- a good cleaning, a little gelcoat work, one new tracking fin, a propeller, and maybe a trailer.

I plan on fixing this up quickly, using it for a few months, and selling it.

I am always perplexed at how someone can let such a nice boat deteriorate - ugh.. Good job Jeff for rescuing it!

I agree. It is crazy. Here are a couple of shots of the interior. Luckily there don't seem to be any rips or tears, so I am hopeful that this might clean up.

As much as I hate seeing a Nautique in this condition, it is really enjoyable for me to bring them back to what they're supposed to be.

I know some may criticize me, but I have always had good luck when something is that badly stained, using a 50/50 tilex/water solution... The important thing is that immediately after I flood, i mean flood the seams with fresh water... I take the nozzle off the hose and place it directly on the seams and follow each one completely front to back, to flush it all out... After it drys a day, I take leather conditioner (maguires) and hand massage into all the vinyl. I have done this process for years and had several different boats that i kept for a long time and never had any seam or degrading issues... Good luck Jeff!

No, this is just mostly dust and dirt. This boat sat in a gravel lot for a few months with no cover. It is a mess, but it appears that it will clean up well.

My go-to cleaner is Spray Nine Marine and a medium bristle brush, and then lots of clean water.

I'll post some results tomorrow.

Just made it home with this boat tonight. Had to spend an extra day picking it up because my first towing company that I was going to use to lift the boat onto my trailer no-showed on me. Luckily I found a great company last night, and they came over today and lifted it right up.

If you've never seen this done before, it is kind of a cool process. They use two tow trucks with booms. Each lifts one end, and then they maneuver the trucks so that the boat lines up with the trailer.

Great find on a very sought after Nautique. I have always thought this era Nautique has the best looking Gel coat lines and tower. Great looking boats. What’s the back story on this?

Better than sitting on the ground I guess. The prop shaft isn't bent and the rudder is in good condition. Prop was missing, but I already have the new replacement ready to install.

I so wanted to get this one up and running and in the water today, but it didn't happen.

New batteries installed, old oil drained and filled, and filter changed, spark plugs replaced, but it won't crank. Just get a click from the starter. It has ben sitting for at least two years, so it is probably just a little hung up. I have some penetrating oil in the cylinders now, and hopefully it'll spin over tomorrow. Have the new batteries on the charger tonight, so they should be topped off tomorrow too. If it still won't spin, I'll get in there and crank it over by hand. I'll have it running soon!

Good news is that all of the electronics work! LINC is completely functional, but has the original software from 2014 on it, so that needs to be updated. All accessories work (interior lights, nav lights, underwater lights, bilge pumps, blower, even the horn).

And here's the best news -- Only 186 hours!!

Score! I freed up a frozen 91BF with a 454 by putting PB blaster in the cylinders and letting it sit for 24 hrs... Took a long bar and impact socket on the crank nut but she eventually freed up and after turning it over by hand multiple times, I got it to fire... Oddly enough compression numbers were within spec! Used that boat for several years before selling it... Good luck getting this one cranked! Awesome find!
