I've been bothering everyone at Ballofspray for quite some time trying to find the right boat and the 216 kept coming up in random threads. "if you can find one"
Well, i found one. 650 miles away. https://www.planetnautique.com/vb5/f...e-216-purchase is the thread on the retrieval.
A dealer had it on consignment. The story being that the son was selling it for his dad because the dad has dementia. 511 hours. "always on a covered lift"
Heavy oxidation, but a very clean interior. The boat appears to be a bare option boat. Single battery, aftermarket amp power cable has rotted off due to corrosion. Excalibur 330. It did come with a barefoot bar and a high flyer pole. The son was apparently a barefoot guy.
Key ignition, perfect pass, but tach only shows hours, no buttons to read error codes or depth.

I left Rock Hill, SC at 5:30pm Saturday night with my dad. Stayed in Charleston WV for the night, and at 5 Am we were off to see if i'd found a bargain.
(Dad's Gourmet Frisco breakfast Sammich).
We arrived in Orland, IN at 11am. to find a boat heavily scuffed, with a faded interior, but otherwise working and clean. I was a bit disappointed the exterior condition was worse than promised and the boat went from "oh a quick buff and it'll be ok" and a steal of a deal to good purchase but it needs hours of wetsanding and other work.
The trailer was only used for storage in winter in a heated garage and had 21 year old tires on it (date code march of 03).
As detailed in the other thread, the wheels were identical to the wheels on my 2015 AR240.
Which I had put brand new good year endurance tires on this spring.
I discovered the tire age the day before leaving and so we took them with us, and replaced them in the dealers lot.
At 12:30 we completed the transaction and tire change. then headed to the local lake to refloat the boat and shift it so it was actually on the bow roller stop as it was several inches short and we were worried it would shift during the trip.

After which we then went to tractor supply to get a bow turnbuckle, transom straps, and fix the wiring.
at 2:30 pm we finally hit the road, the wiring had taken us four trips back into the store. We were tired and kept purchasing the wrong things and only realized it twice after wiring and taping everything together that we were wrong.
Dad and I took 2 hour trips, on the way up, we'd achieved 18.9 mpg in my 2014 Ecoboost F150, which had 100,007 miles when we started the journey. On the way back, we saw 10.6 mpg on the trip odometer, though it did creep up to a trip average of 12.9 mpg. The boat towed amazingly well, much more stable than my Ar240. We reached speeds of 86 mph without incident.
(you can see how much more the trailer sticks out here than my truck).
Originally, we had planned on staying in Charleston WV again, but had realized that the parking garage would not work with the boat for the return trip. As such we had decided to try make it to Beckley WV.

Fuel up and driver change some random part of Ohio.

As dark hit, we reached Charleston WV and it's super narrow highway with very close shoulders and concrete walls.
This is the same time we realized that though we had fixed the wiring, we could not see the trailer at all. The running lights were dark. We assumed we had no trailer lights at all and started to drive slower. Dad was driving and i was watching the mirror to see the glimpses of trailer in other peoples headlights.
The scariest moment was the moment i realized we were going to hit the concrete barrier and had to shout at dad to drive into the neighboring lane in order to avoid hitting it. it must have been several seconds but it felt like an instant between death on the highway and surviving. Shaken, we stopped at Texas Roadhouse, our first real meal of the day. Where we found out the trailer rear lights were working fine, one running light/fender marker was broken, the other turned on with a touch of a finger.
We ordered our steaks and were done within 30 minutes. back on the road. My turn to drive. As we got on the turnpike and into the toll roads. two emergency vehicles flew past us. But we did not see them again for 30 minutes and assumed they had turned off to help someone.

Nope turns out the second toll had shut down due to an 18 wheel on fire. we came across this at 10pm. and did not move for an hour. Discussions were had about stopping in beckley still as it was now 11pm and late. We had originally left the dealer thinking if we pushed it we could be home by 11pm. Now we were looking at 3am. Dad had a short nap while we were stuck on the highway. I actually turned the truck off and all my lights to help him sleep.
In the end we made it. I slept for 4 hours before being unable to sleep any more. (too used to getting up to workout I guess).
