    restored '77 Ski Nautique

"Restored" is not really the correct term. Rebuilt to different specs would be more appropriate. On this boat, the only thing original is the tow pylon, the hull, and the windshield frame.

Thanks guys. I'll post a few more pics below.

The motor is a Ford Motorsports 351 HO putting out 310 hp. Still the original (rebuilt) tranny at 1:1, swinging a 13"x13".

My father and I rebuilt this boat a few years ago. He has dozens of years of hydroplane building experience, and we figured that we could improve the wake (flatter) by moving the engine forward a few inches, so thats what we did. It worked - you'll never ski on a 77' with an early 90's wake other than behind this one.

At one point this boat was sitting on the bottom of a river. We disassembled the entire boat, literally, even down to the stringers, and rebuilt it to our own specs. Spent about a year's worth of weekday evenings and weekends on it. Painted the thing with Sikken's Autocryl, including the engine, which we ground on for days to get it smooth.

It has yanked me through the course many times over the years, and the best it ever pulled someone was 5@35' (not even close for me though)

Here are some more "after" pics. I'll have to scan for some of the "before" shots.

So the only place for air to get in and out of the doghouse is through the vents on it?

That thing sure does shine, and of course I like the red!

Air in comes through the vents on the motor cover, goes out through the side vents near the stern. It is a little louder than I'd prefer, but its a nice sound. <g>

It is not still for sale and boy am I glad I didn't find a buyer.

I got really into triathlons for a few years and thought I may not use her again, but last year I rediscovered that I love water skiing and was sure glad I still had the boat.

Feel free to update your ad Yellow_Flash_Colorz:

Is it safe to assume that the LH motor is turning a LH prop? How bad does the boat lean to starboard under power?

I'm pretty sure we had that motor made as an exception. It backs to the right, because that is what I wanted. Which way is that, RH or LH? I can't recall.

All of my CC's back to the left, so it sounds like yours is a standard (LH) rotation motor. You can check by looking at the prop to see if its LH or RH.

Does it lean to the drivers side at skiing speeds without an observer?

OK, so I guess it is a LH, my ski partner had a '91 Mastercraft that backed to the right, and since we used our boats interchangeably, we wanted them to react the same.

It used to lean a bit w/out an observer but we moved the battery to live under the floor in the observer's position - no more lean. We typically skiied with 2 people, solved the problem pretty much.
