Which Bimini Top, Under or Over Tower????

Hey Guys, I looking for a Bimini for my 226, I want the shade but I also want a good-looking ride. I have tower speakers and have noticed both Bimini's over and under the tower. What are the pros and cons of Bimini mounting, what is the best and where is a good source?

There was a good thread on this, but I can't find it right now.

The major advantage of over is headroom. I'm 6'5" and wouldn't have it any other way. I also don't use my tower pylon much and don't have speakers and racks. My bimini has no problem covering the main cockpit, depending on where the sun it. The kids don't want to sit in the bow anymore.

I have read that when wakeboarding the rope may have a tendency to grab the edge of the tower when turning to get a fallen rider.

Hey i recommend going over the top. Heres the Ameritex bimini on my 210, excellent head room, great coverage and because it moulds pretty much to the shape of the tower (FCT 2) rope catch is not a problem, it also looks really good, IMO.

I have an Ameritex on my 08 210 as well and love it. As Bevan said it provides great coverage. I believe Ameritex is the brand used by correct craft for the factory ordered biminis. They are a great quality and are substantially less money than the Tower Bimini's brand. If you want to talk to someone there I have an email for the guy I ordered mine from. His name is Bowdie. email is bwilliams@ameritex-tech.com
They are very fast at making and shipping. I ordered mine during the peak boating season and had it within a week.

These look great, but I went with the tower bimini's! I like the way the tower biminis doesn't have the strap on the front and it also extends past the back of the tower for more coverage. If you call John he will give you a great deal right now! Took over $250 off for me! He's a great guy and will really work with you!

As mentioned headroom could be considered better with an "over", we have a Tower Bimini "under" and have never had an issue with the rope as mentioned. One thing I like about the under is you don't see the tower speakers or bang your head on them, the under bimini is just below the tower speakers so I don't feel like the under really steals much headroom, either way look for maximum coverage, ours being low and covering a large area keeps you in total shade all day.

I also recently purchased an over the tower in stock unit from John at Tower Bimini. Price shipped was less that the group buy pricing here and it shipped same day. Funny when I researched on this forum Ameritex never came up. ???

I've got a over the top TowerBimini and love it. They have great customer service and have helped me out with some replacement parts that I screwed up.

Anyone have a 216 with an "over-the-top" bimini? I'd really like to see some pics. I'm trying to make this same decision as well.

                        Thanks,

I got a Towerbiminis over the top model, and it's been great! I can also vouch for their customer service. I don't have a pic of mine, but I have a picture that I used to make my decision.
FWIW, the stainless and polished fittings are worth upcharge, the stainless tubing makes the bimini STRONG. We actually use the bimini to store a big 3 person tube when we have kids come along.
I have not had the problem of catching the rope on the back of the bimini, and the design of the TB extends back behind the rear bar, so the coverage is very good, and it's great not having to stoop under the lower style biminis (we have a couple of friends with the under style.)

Wow....Great picture! I'm still wondering if it shades the sun enough that high. Looks like the driver is getting quite a bit of sunlight. That was actually one of the TB designs I was looking at in black, silver, and white.

My pick is an under type. Helps keep the sound of the speakers out of th cabin and doesnt look like a tarp draiped over the tower.
