Preventing Mildew on G23 with cover

Does anybody have a great idea for preventing mildew on the boats after use. The boat stays on a lift, after use I really want to cover it to keep dust, dirt, critters, etc. out of it. However, the boat is usually soaked when we are done for the day. Squirrely fan, small dehumidifier draining through ice chest drain???? Anybody have great ideas?? Thanks, Bill

I treat my seats with OBEX each fall when winterizing. That stuff works like a charm. With my old boat, a Regal 2200, the factory protectant wore off after 8 years or so and the seats would turn absolutely black during the winter, and mildew a little during the summer when it was covered. Obex put the breaks on all that.

First of all, do EVERYTHING you can to let the boat dry out. If you have a day when it's clear, leave the cover off and open all the compartments. Moisture causes way more problems than just mildew. Dry as much water out of the boat as you can. I use a shop-vac to suck all of it out of the bilge.

Next, buy three of these: http://www.homedepot.com/p/DampRid-6...G50T/100391308. Put one up front, two in the back and put the cover on. These will absorb the rest of the dampness. They also have little "gauges" on the side showing you when they're spent and need to be replaced.

Charles has it right with the damprid. I actually have 4 refillable units that I use each time I am done with the boat and its back on the lift. If you have carpet, un-snap it and stick a couple of noodles under there to allow circulation..... also prop open all of your seats.... can use coozies....to allow for more circulation.

If your boat was in a rain storm and you have it on a lift under cover, and you need to leave it, talk to someone at the dock or a neighbor... someone may be willing to cover it in a couple days after its dried out.

The last marina I kept my boat at offered to put jackets away, wipe down boat and recover once dry for $35.00.

+1 for Damprid. I use 3 in various compartments and refill as necessary. I wipe the entire boat down with a towel and try to let it dry as much as possible before it gets covered. Also, if you can, pull the plug out once the boat is out of the water to let any extra bilge water drain. I only do this if the boat is going to seat for more than a week. I see you have a G23 on order so pulling the plug while on a boat lift will be easy.

Not on my lift. The only way to get back there to it is to get in the water.

I have kept all my boats on a covered lift year round , all I have done is place a large fan in boat open all seats and hatches that can stay open with cover, never had a bit of problem with mildew, have used damprid in a closed structure but feel just under a breathable cover your wasting money because your treating the out side air also ,, my 2 cents but also understand it must works for the ones using it or they would not be praising the product....

You have a G23. Your plug is in the floor compartment not at the rear of the boat.

I'm forgetful too. I pull the plug, watch the water drain, and put it right back in. I would never recommend leaving the plug out while the boat is on a lift.

Waterhawg.....I live in the Chattanooga area so pretty close to you with similar heat and humidity. I leave our boat, on our covered dock, uncovered for 24 hours, run 1-2 box fans, open up all the seats and doors. Cover it up 24 hours later and have had zero problem with mold and mildew. I understand wanting to keep it covered but that's just not going to work for you.
