    “Over the tower bimini” thoughts??

I am getting ready to pull the tower off my 2001 SAN and have it sandblasted and powder coated. Several years ago when I purchased the boat it had a bimini on it that was below the tower. I ended up pulling this bimini off last year as it was a nuisance when open because of head height and a nuisance when closed because it interfered with vision out of the rear view mirror.

Anyways...I was down in Dallas last week and stopped in to see Lee and Kyle at DFW Inboards. They had a customers boat at the shop with one of these “over the tower biminis”. They were kind enough to let me climb around and open and close it to see how I liked it. I was pretty impressed with the quality and structure. Does anyone have this particular bimini and have opinions about it? I’m curious if you think the height defeats the purpose when the sun is anything but directly above? I’ve been plenty of newer boats with over the tower bimnis, but they are wider and angle down on the sides.

This bimini can be found on Nautique Parts under the name “Bimini Top for Towered Boats”.

Oh yeah the boat was pretty bada** too. First time I’ve seen a python in person. The music coming from those tail pipes DID NOT disappoint either. I could do without the wrap depending on the gel underneath, but I don’t judge. Boat gets an A+ in my book!

I have looked into them a good bit on the site, and would LOVE to have one but too rich for my blood.

I can give some information on this as I have this particular over the tower Bimini now and have had under the tower Bimini’s on all previous boats. Yes you are correct about the height and no angle on the side pcs giving up some shade for sure, no way to get around that, it’s a trade off. The large under the tower Bimini on my 06 put off more shade no doubt.
Personally I liked having more shade from the lower one, but I’m pretty used to the over the tower one now.

I have a 2007 211 and am 6’5” so it’s been OTB since day one. Very little experience with under love my OTB. Not sure about coverage decrease, it covers driver and spotter well, other seats not do much but I don’t see under catching those as well. I love the open feel of it, I want to be ON a boat, not IN a boat and OTB helps with that.

ID:	576747Mine is a towersbimini and it is an over the tower. I love being able to walk through the boat without having to dunk. It gives plenty of shade. highly recommend over the tower. Also, I had NautiqueHunter another PN member sew surf pockets into my bimini. His wife actually did it and she does amazing work. the work was preformed 3 years ago and it still feels brand new. With the surf pockets it has created so much more space. It wasn't cheap but highly worth it.Click image for larger version

I'm just excited to see another Python super air in Texas.

I had tower biminis under the tower on my pro Air and loved the Quality. My next one will come from them and probably be the over version.

Glad to hear good reviews on this, although I’ve decided on hold off on doing it. I just took my old bimini off at the beginning of last summer and only used my boat maybe half dozen times without it due to tearing my ACL, MCL, and Meniscus in June. I’m going to use the boat this summer and see how many times II find myself saying “**** I wish I had a bimini”. If I catch myself saying it enough then I’ll go ahead and order it. Thanks for the reviews!

I had a 211 with a over the tower Bimini from towerbiminis, loved the quality and ease of the Bimini. The only drawback I could find was that the surf rope would chafe the rear lip no matter what I did for adjustment. With experienced riders, it’s a non issue as the rope gets thrown in quickly.

Chiming in to say I also have an over-tower bimini, and love it. I never take it down all season, but then my boat also lives in the water. The only downside - which would be true for any bimini, but somehow worse with the over-tower I think - is that people tend to grab the near corner when getting into the boat, or hit their heads there, but only when getting in. My dock is setup so the boat is a bit below, though - this is less of a problem on lower docks e.g. floating docks that sit closer to the water.

We purchased a TowerBimini brand over the tower version for out '99 w a FCT2 and loved that bimini! I'm not tall and really appreciated not having to stoop under a standard bimini as I was always the one running around the boat to get riders ready to go.

Have you got any useful answers from this thread? I have tried so many times to reach the forum members but didn't get anything related then I searched on google and found this. http://www.crunchytricks.com/2016/07...ates-fppt.html

They were useful to me even though I didn’t purchase anything. I asked for people opinions and that’s exactly what I got. Did you get any useful answers from this thread?
