G Series SewLong Waterline Cover

I知 getting ready to invest in a Sewlong cover that is designed to fit over the tower and completely cover the boat down to the waterline including the swim platform. This will be for a 2014 G23 with the z5 bimini. I currently keep the boat on a lift under a canopy, but I知 hopeful that a full cover will provide additional protection above and beyond the factory cover. (Mainly the hull sides as the canopy is 12ft off the water.)


I wanted to see if any members have experience with the SewLong or other brand covers designed to completely cover the boat with the tower and bimini in the up position. I壇 be curious to hear if the operation of covering the boat with one of these monsters creates more headaches than it痴 worth. Much appreciated.

That cover will be so heavy it will take a minimum of two people to put it on and off. . That is why most side and back skirts are in pieces so the main cover is manageable. I would love to have a cover like you are designing and I have the same dock and lift set up as you, but I know a cover in this design type is simply not practical . Just my 2 cents

We're in Michigan, up here skiboatcover.com is the shop to go to for the best covers. The high end boat dealers will offer the factory cover as a standard offering and the skiboatcovers.com cover as the premium upgrade. They're not cheap but they are very good and specialize in (as the name says) ski boats. I just had a waterline cover made for my 200 Sport Nautique and love it.

I have a friend that has a 2012 MasterCraft X2 that did the over the tower cover. Turned out great. He uses his old cover while on the covered lift and the over the tower cover when the boat is on the trailer. It's no light weight by any means but he puts in on and takes it off without that much effort by himself. I would recommend if you're going to go this deep with the cover, do it in Sunbrella if possible. If you use Sunbrella you shouldn't have to use vents and will have a better breathing cover.

Ok but OP will be installing a full cover over water in a covered lift which will probally be a hard task then removing and installing a full cover on a trailer

Hard to argue that. Why you would need an over the tower cover on a covered lift is a good question. If anything I'd do a waterline or cover with side skirts and let the lift canopy handle the top half.

I have a full boat cover for my G25 almost identical to the one in the pics above, got it from Dallas Canvas (972) 910--9052. One major difference in mine is it has side zip doors on both sides so you can easily get in the boat with the cover on (can't tell you how many times I've left my shades or wallet in boat after putting the cover on!) My boat is in a boat house with a lift and roof but open on the sides, this cover does a great job of keeping bird crap and spiders webs off of the tower and speakers. Takes about 5 minutes to put it on and I do it solo every time.....had this cover for 5 years and it's just starting to get worn out. My neighbors on both sides of me also have this cover on their G23's and they both put them on by themselves every time.....it's not a big deal to put on once you've done it a few times.

Yeah, excatly the reason to have a full cover: no bug or anything inside even on a lift under a roof.

I put mine on from inside the boat. This would work for a boat on a lift.

I don't know anything about this particular cover. But at the World Wake Surf Championships last year I had a chance to meet the owner and examine a display of his work. The craftsmanship is second to none and I have a very high bar. They are a totally custom shop so if you want side skirts or a quick access panel just ask. They will be more than happy to accommodate you. Finally, I have no relationship with them. Good luck.

I have an over the tower full skirt Sewlong cover. I have no problem carrying and putting it on myself and I'm no kid. I am a big fan of skirted covers and over the tower is great because you eliminate all ponding issues. I purchased the cover to go over the tower but with the Z5 off but it works just as well with the Z5 installed....bonus!!!

Thanks for all of the great responses, everyone. While the canopy provides some protection from the elements, the height allows a significant amount of sun and wind to reach the boat. I'll likely try the side skirts for the factory cover to get through the rest of the season and pull the trigger on a full waterline cover this fall. I appreciate all of the thoughtful responses.

Spiders, spider poop, and bird poop are the 3 main problems I have with my covered lift. Spiders love wakeboard towers and they leave webs and poop every where.

After receiving all of the great responses, I wanted to post an update. I ended up purchasing the Sewlong cover and have been impressed with the fit and finish thus far. The cover is a bit more work to install than the factory cover of course, but it's not unbearable and can be accomplished by one person while the boat is on the lift. Once the bow portion of the cover has been installed, the most difficult part is lifting the rest of the rolled up cover over the Z5 bimini. From there, I've been standing on the gunwales to roll the cover over the bimini and tower, the rest falls in to place for the most part. One feature that I'm most fond of is the ability to stand up in the boat for cleaning, maintenance, etc. while the cover is on. The port and starboard lockers won't fully open with the cover on, but there's enough room to partially open them. Thanks again for the responses.
