Sewlong shade sail

Hi all,

Found this online and thinking about it for my G21 2014, anyone got it for there G yet ? Any reviews on what's it like ?

Also what's the difference in the FCT between a 2014 and 2018, not that I think the mount will be affected but wanted to double check etc.

I have it for my 2021 G23. Ive only attached it in the garage to see how to set it up because it hasnt been warm enough to use the bimini yet. When i bought it the guys at sewlong said they guaranteed it would be fine being deployed at surfing speed but they couldnt guarantee it for being deployed at wakeboard speed. They did say that the week before i bought mine they had a customer that had it deployed the whole time they were down at powell and it held up fine despite being deployed driving up and down the lake. My dealer uses sewlong for all their new G biminis but i know on their website they have picks with the shade sail attached to a G with the factory bimini. I have the 8 foot rear shade sail and it extends back just past my transom seats.

I would think you could find a local canvas person who could fabricate something like that for maybe half that price... It is straight work without complex bends it seems... Nearly 2k seems steep. imo

For mine the mounts are on the rear part of the bimini but its the aftermarket bimini. Im pretty sure the mounts for the boats with the G factory bimini go on the actual tower. the mounts are pretty small so imagine they’d fit just fine

Man I would love to figure out something like this for my boat. I found some retractable 4' carbon fiber pole and I have access to a CNC to make the mounting bracket but have absolutely no skill when it comes to sewing. I'll have to have a look at this, this weekend over a couple engineering beers and see if I can't figure this out. There's no reason this couldn't be set up on most any tower.

Thanks heaps for your info, so finally finished my Aft shade for our 2014 G21
- bigair wake flag poles and mounts
- 3 metres of Sunbrella

Any interest in sharing where you got the supplies?
It looks like the big air poles are $89ea on the site? Just 2 of those kits I assume?
Then have my local shop sew up the sunbrella for me?

When not in use, easy to remove from tower and store under a seat?

Exactly, mounts and poles are from big Air wake, really easy to mount and I have them flaired out a little to make the shade tort

The Sunbrella was easy to fold and sew with enough room for the poles to slide in, added Velcro straps near the tower to hold a little firmer

When we are done with the shade, we pull the poles out and roll the shade up, (I made a bag for it to slide in) then slide it back into the rear side of the boat

Hey, the sewlong one was expensive ! Like almost 3k by the time I get it to Australia

can you run with the shade up? I have the big air flags and mounts already!

@sesions we haven't really run with the aft shade up as it will get in the way of the ropes for wake or surf. But we are adding a couple of Velcro straps that will go around the tower in the centre to hold a little firmer. Well I'm hoping to do it before next summer (winter in Aus now)

But as far as extra shade when you pull up in a cove for lunch or Arvo drinks, it is fantastic, keeps the sun off the back for more lounge space out of the 40c + heat etc....

What lengths are your poles in the big air mounts

I got the 72s I think, they were the longest ones they did

And they have a mount guide on there site to help with what brackets for your tower
