We need to get a new cover for our 236 Nautique. we are new Nautique owners - so I really don't know where to go. - currently the old cover is stretched out and rips if you look at it wrong. I am not opposed to spending the money to get the right cover. Also - we don't have snaps - the old cover is a tie down. I really don't want to put snaps on our boat - but I want to be able to trailer the boat with the cover on tight so it doesn't create problems - any one width any thoughts?

There are a couple companies that always come up and there is always the factory option for newer boats. Evolution and skiboatcovers.com are probably the 2 most popular however there area, as you would expect many other local shops that could/would do a great job as well. Which you choose depends on what you attributes in a cover matter most for you. My boat sits on a lift so I went with skiboatcovers.com for my last 3 covers and purchased the waterline versions. They make a very high quality cover and everyone I've owned fit very well. You can tow with these but I rarely do unless it's raining. Towing beats the heck out of a very expensive cover and can chafe the hull/interior unless precautions are taken.
An Evolution type cover is gear more to towing, fits very tight however the coverage of the hull is much less than say a waterline cover. This is a great cover if you're looking for something to tow with and your boat doesn't sit exposed to the elements the majority of the time.
As to snaps..... Bit of a holy war on these. Personally I'll walk away from a boat that has had 60 holes drilled into it to hold a cover. IMO I can think few things you can permanently do to scar a boat. The other issue is that eventually the snaps will pull through the cover or the cover will shrink/stretch making it difficult to install or loose fitting. They are (to me) akin to mounting a fish finder to the dash with some nice big wood screws but again this is just me. There are others that love them and the relative ease of snapping 40 or 50 button snaps to put on their cover.
Which you choose to go with is up to you based on your needs/preferences.
