    Wake board questions.

Im looking at investing in my own board, rather than using the ski club's ride. Looking online I see huge price ranges without a lot of info.

What makes one wake board deck worth 3 times as much as another?

What makes a wake board create more pop off the wake?

Is the weight of the board considered crutial? Do you want the lightest one possible?

What else do I need to know?

Give me some info on yourself first and then we can go from there. What level rider are you: beginner, or intermediate. What is your weight. Try to explain your riding style: do you like to slide around, go big, technical spins etc.

Prices are high for all the 08 models, it really depends on your size and skill level to know what you can handle. Light boards help in getting big air, and i have always owned Liquid Force boards, I think they are the best brand out there.

        RE: Wake board questions.

Well, Im just under 200lbs( read somewhat over weight). There are no real tricks in my wheelhouse but wake to wake jumps I can do. I've not had enough time on the water to get good at anything really.

I'd like a board that provides a lot of pop and doesnt feel loose (like riding without fins)

Its not important to me to have an '08 model.

I havent tried them but I dont think I'd like the closed toe bindings.

Im thinking I would like the board to be light but Im not sure if that will make a difference to how much air you get.

I don't currently "slide around" as in switch stance and slide the wake or grind anything. Not sure I'll ever start grinding obstacles. Theres none at the lake I go to.

I do snow board a lot more often than I wake board as I don't have my own boat and ski club time is quite expensive.

          RE: Wake board questions.

Look for a board around a 143. From what you are saying I would go with a 3 stage rocker and something that sits low in the water. Look for a board that says beginner/intermediate. If you go to wakeworld.com and click on boards they have tons of info on every make/year of boards. I have ridden most brands of boards and right now I am riding a liquid force and I love it. As far as bindings I just sent back my last pair of Hyperlites that I will ever have. they fall apart too easy. Everyone I have talked to say that LF bindings are super well made so I am about to try some of those out.
As far as weight goes you are not going to see much of a difference from board to board and it will not make much of a difference in your riding. If a few ounces to a pound messes up your riding then your legs are weaker than a 10yr old girl. Besides if you hit the wake right it is the wake tossing you into the air, not you jumping like from the ground and pulling the board up with you (hope I explained that well). Good luck in your search. If you have a dealer in your area try to see if you can demo a couple of boards and go from there.

you can pick up a hyperlite premier from grizzly sports for roughly 150-175.. best board out imo for any skill level

If you are mainly going wake to wake I would recommend a longer board. I am similar in weight and ride a 145, it should give softer landings. Also, don't rule out close toes. As far as pricing look for an 07 if anyone has some (should be some out there). Also Boardersbestbuy has had some pretty good prices on boards lately. They had 08 Murray bindings for 179 the other day. They only sell one product per day so you have to keep checking in.

also check out buywake.com on their outlet page, boardersmall.com, as well as evogear.com, and beyondwatersports.com for some left over 06/07 boards and packages.

I thought I posted this the other day, but I don't see it for some reason. Anyways, I have a 2008 Premier 141 that I am looking to sell if you decide to go with that board. I have only rode it twice. Would want to get $210 shipped if interested. Thanks a lot!

Dont rule out closed toe bindings, many mfgs make good closed toe bindings. i ride ronix cell bindings and would not go back to open toe. Not having to use soap to get in them is nice too. Ronix has sizes like 8/9/10/11/12/etc that match shoe sizes so you can get an exact fit, not just S/M/L/XL. For boards i would try to find a place that will demo them so you can find the one you like best. If you just go buy one there is a good chance you will end up not liking it. You can't go by length alone for board choice, it depends on the board. i am about 200lbs and on my hyperlite belmont, 136 is the right size, on a ronix frontier a 142 was the right size. I like continuous rocker boards, some like 3 stage rocker better. You have to try as many as you can to get a good feel for yourself.
