    Storing stuff over winter ?

Interesting debate at the cafe this morning. A couple of folks said to keep ski's and similar stuff from freezing because the freezing can cause problems for the glues such as holding surface on a surfboard. One guy said he'd had a mouse chew up a boot.

How do you store your stuff for winter? Any problems with freezing, mice, other vermits, etc.?

I'm building a rack right now to hang on the wall and hold my board and ski's. It will be in the garage wich shouldnt get below freezing. I'm hoping having them off of the floor will keep critters out as well.

All of our stuff stays in the boat which goes to storage after use. To winterize we just put the boat cover on.

I take all my stuff out and store it in the basement. I figure why chance it, it's more a piece of mind thing than anything I guess. If you have the room why not it takes all of 10 minutes tops to pull it all out and transfer it. beside than I get to see the equipment sitting there from time to time and it reminds me of how much I want winter to be over. I store my boat in a heated(40-45degrees) machine shed with a couple of cats around and i've had no problems with critters.

My ski in my office, extra skis & kneeboard/wakeboard in the garage, and the other miscellaneous bits in bins in the attic. I thought about leaving gear in the boat but, being stored at an off-site location, I didn't quite trust it to be there in the spring...

You're in Florida! What is your storage period? ....Christmas Eve through New Year's Day?

With all of my toys I try to avoid extreme weather (OK Charlotte NC isn't too extreme... 0-100 degs). I don't have facts, but I'll bet extremes can have some effect on glue. Although, I've kept my cheaper / older gear in a shed and haven't noticed any change. The gear I value the most is stored in my house (similar to gear in shed, but newer / nicer). I don't really have the room, but I want to protect them from all of those things mentioned above. As always, I can't wait til March.

You also want to watch gas fumes if you're storing in a shed, as the fumes and tear apart rubber seals.
