    RE: jimmy jam wakesurf trainer

Start him on the fun board. That's how both of mine started. We've got the Jimmy Jam too and it is hard to get started on....especially for small kids with low body weights.

The low tow point and the separate tether on the fun board make it perfect. We have several and have had up to three connected at one time. First time out was age 5. I've had 4-year-old girls stand up after just a few minutes. Calm water or rough....sit, kneel, or stand...long rope or short, speeds 7 to 15+ ....20 kneeling low or laying down.

Let me know if you have more questions, need more pics, a place to buy, or even a video or two.

Two links and an extra photo...in the photo below he has let go of the tether.

jimmy jam is hard for the kiddos - it's awkward. It looks like a good idea but the fun board is better.

You should get 1 per kid so you can drag them around at the same time.

I just bought a Jimmy Jam this afternoon and my 5 year old did great on it. It was the only product they had at the local marina and it worked for us.

Here is a pic of the 8-year-old on the jimmy jam. I try to get him to take more of a surf position...but he has a mind of his own.

I need to get a surf rope, load up the bags and bring him up to the transom.

I ordered one of the fun boards on your recomendation on fri, Quality marine supply called and said they would get it out the same day and thanked me for the order. You dont get that very often. I'll let you know how my 6yo girl likes it. She has been riding the obrian ski board this summer but says she is not ready for the skis yet.

                          1. I can send you a video of my daughter on the fun board when she was 5 if you wan't. PM me an email address...I just need to compress it enough for email.

                          2. When you get her started, make sure she doesn't get too far forward on the board and make the nose dive. When it is time to "hit it", don't be shy on the throttle. If you start too slow or troll with her, the nose will go under. That happened to us and the daughter was ruined for several days. It is very easy, you'll see what I mean once you do it. If she is not strong enough to climb up easily, you can put it in gear to put tension on the rope and give the board some stability. Most kids can stay balanced while waiting for the start. If the board flips over after a crash, go slowly. The board might take a dive like a fishing lure. If it stays righted, usually no problems. I'm not making it sound like a headache....just some things to watch out for.

                          For speed:

                          Standing - 7 to 12
                          Kneeling - 10 to 16
Laying down and hanging on! - up to about 22 or so in glassy water. We've only done this once...for high speed thrills, you might stick with a tube.

So far, every kid that has tried does great. Most stand up after a few turns.

We got the fun board this week and had a chance to try it out. She played around on it in the water for a while and then shouted to me she was ready to ride it. I drug her around for about 15 minutes. She was able to make it cut outside the wake and was able to pick up the 2nd roller behind the boat and ride it a little. She had a blast, and was driving us nuts to do it again and again. This will be a hit with the other kids that go out with us, thanks for the recomendation!

                              Excellent - post some pics.

Here is some more advice. Use the thinnest rope you can to pull it. I used a two-man tube rope then converted a thin cheepo ski rope to a tow rope. The thinner the rope, the less sag to get caught on the wake. As they get better you can shorten the rope to get them closer up to the surf wake....not too close but maybe 20 ft behind the boat instead of 50. Eventually she'll want to stand up and catch a wave.

ENJOY - and post some pics!
