    2001 SAN Fat Sac Layout

I am looking for a little help in the slow time of the year...the sun came out today and got me thinking about what I need to do to get ready for the spring season.

Bought a 2001 Super Air last year and had a great time with it all summer. Toward the end of the year, bought a waksurfer, and was a little disappointed by the factory wake...worked well for smaller people, but at 185 I struggled to stay in the wave.

I need to put some sacs in the boat and would like thoughts on the ideal set up...a local shop (of course) suggested that I let them pull out the hard tanks, replace the pump and pay them big bucks for the work. I am pretty good with a screwdriver and a wrench, and hoped that I could do it my self...but before starting:

What is the recommendation of the group on setting up this boat?
Piggy back the old tanks with 400lbs?
Take out the old tanks and put in 750lbs?
Any thoughts on ski locker sacs or how to add weight to the bow?

    Any help would be appreciated!

I have a 2001 SAN as well and the first thing i did was remove the hard tanks. Dont mess with a piggy back system.

Last season i had this in the bow

a set of v-drive sacs in the rear

and about 300lbs of sand in the ski locker. It worked great for wakeboarding but wanted to add more to the rear for wake surfing so this winter i am revamping my system and adding a 450 sac in locker and 750's in the rear.

Check her for my plans http://www.wakeworld.com/MB/Discus/m...tml?1258932232

I have all the part now and i am going to start the install soon, i will post up on the progress as i go.

      liquiddiet thanks for the thoughts.

i spent some time on the phone this week with Mike at Fly High. He was great, and very helpful.

I am planning on adding 1100's to the back, and the 650 to the ski locker. May look to the bow sac next year.

Mike spoke about the quick connect fittings. Did you use them?

Still torn on adding new pumps...not sure I want to lay out the $$ right now...it may be an upgrade when the current pumps fail.

Thinking might piggyback first, then pull the tanks later...having a hard time leaving gauges and dials in the boat that don't do anything....crazy, but I drives me crazy.

I am absolutely using the quick connect fittings, want to be able to remove everything easily to clean ad dry out if needed.

As for adding new pumps, i understand the $$$ deal, but the existing setup is very inefficient. You can fill both vdrive sacs with one 800 pump but it will take some time. But if you are ok with that you can always add along the way, just be careful mods get addicting One thing i will say, is ditch the idea of the piggyback system, u will end up wasting $$$ and wanting to ditch the system eventually. If u are worried about the gauges, they are not going to be accurate with the piggyback system anyway, they will only tell you when tanks are filled not the top bags. I am replacing that panel and placing the new ballast switches there.

are you going to add any additional thru hulls?

Can you give me some more details on replacing the panel. Right now it also has an old Clarion panel for the old radio...the previous owner replaced the radio, but left the remote control in the panel. See the pictures on my other post. If I could find something else to put in this panel I would be really happy.

Source a piece of ABS plastic, trace the old bezel and make a new one. See thread from last winter on how we did new bezel for the CMD4a ( http://www.wakeworld.com/MB/Discus/m...tml?1240599090 )

also if u plan on putting to Jumbo's in the back, you should absolutely think about adding bow weight. U actually might want to consider 750's in the back instead of the 1100's. 750's pretty much max out the vdrive compartments w/o the tanks, so the 1100's wont get you much.

Yeah the 750's take up the entire rear lockers. With the 750's you will need more weight than a locker sac to plane out if they are full. I run 750's in the back, a custom locker sac, and the integrated bow sac in the nose under the seats and some lead up there. If there are only 3 of us I run another 600 on the floor in the middle of the boat. It is big!!

                  Seth,

I admire your commitment to a massive wake.... If only I can create a mini-me version on my Air... planning on 400's in the trunk and 500 in the ski locker.... too bad I don't have the room, or hull of a SAN

This is what the guys at wakemakers.com recommend:

                    Hi Eric-

Thanks for contacting us about installing ballast in your Super Sport, and congrats on the new boat! Based on our experience with that generation Super Sport/Super Air, I would recommend the following weighting scheme to set the boat up for both wakeboarding and wakesurfing:

                    - 1x Fly High Pro X Series Fat Sac in starboard rear locker
                    - 1x Fly High Pro X Series Fat Sac in Port rear locker
                    - 1x Fly High Pro X Series Center Locker Sac in ski locker
                    - 1x Fly High Integrated Bow Sac underneath seats in the bow

That will give you approximately 2,350 pounds of weight with all of the bags full, and a 40/60 weight distribution front-to-rear. That's a little more weight in the back of the boat than we would like for Nautiques (which already have a steeper than average wake to begin with), so you probably won't want to fill the rear bags completely for wakeboarding. For wakesurfing you'll want as much weight in the back as you can get though, which is why we suggest the larger rear bags.

Do you have a preference on what type of pump you would like to use (impeller vs. aerator)? If you need more information about the pros and cons of each pump type let me know, and once we decide on that I can generate a complete parts list for you.

Thanks again for contacting us, and I'm looking forward to working with you.

                    Thanks,
