    Ear Protection

Any suggestions for protecting ears (eardrums) from damage resulting from falls while skiing. I've been using silicone earplugs to protect my eardrums from rupturing when I take a tumble. Any headgear/helmet that is available?

    Thanks for a great site.

I think the wax earplugs are recommended. That's what I've seen the barefooters use.

Some models of Pro-Tec helmets have removable clip in ear protection (flaps)
We have to wear helmets at the cable park but most people take the earflaps off.

I have used the foam roll-up earplugs.
I have hears of jumpers just putting duct tape over the ear holes on a helmet.
I also use a foam rubber O'Neill beany cap when it is cold, it covers the ears, and helps keep the head warm.

I use a bright yellow pro-tec helmet with removable ear covers (I keep them in... I almost lost my hearing as a little tyke, so I am pretty careful about it now). Apart from making me look like a complete clown (or perhaps a wasp when I wear all black), it serves as a good signal to other boats that I am down in the water. There is a reason why new fire trucks are typically yellow.

I've tried a lot of earplugs and the vented Doc's ProPlugs are the best I've found so far.

I bought some pairs at Walgreens (they come in a plastic clear box and a blue label) that look like the "spoon" for honey (that stick that at the end has a ball with some grooves). The end that goes in your ear is blue and at the other end it is yellow. I believe they are made out of silicone. Both of the plus are attached via a string (good to keep you from losing one or tying them to your ski boot). They work pretty well, highly recommended.
