    Piggyback ballast

I just purchased a 07 SAN 220 and I'm looking at adding some additional piggyback ballast bags to the boat. I was looking at the Vdrive (400lbs) sacs and some 750lbs fat sacs. Will the 750lbs be to much weight on top of the hard tanks? I'm afraid of it collapsing the hard tanks because of weight (not from draining... I can figure that out). Is anyone running these on top of hard tanks? The size looks like it may be tight on the side of the main power switch and breakers? Is the 750 sac to big for that side? Any issues there?

i run the 750's on top of my hard tanks in my 2008 230 and have had no issues. i'd definitely get the 750's over the 400's.

I have the 750's in my 08 210. I first had the 400's and upgraded to the 750's. It's nice having the extra weight for when there is only 2 people in the boat.

not sure what their website is. i usually order my sacs from a local dealer or on evogear.com

evo is super fast and the prices are the same pretty much everywhere. but they have free shipping a lot of times.

How do keep the ballast bag from hitting the battery switch and breakers on that side? It looks like it would b really tight... I'm afraid all that sticking out will put hole in bag or weight of bag crush some of those panels... What do u think?

What are piggyback ballast? Does that mean you're piggybacking the filling and draining to the existing tanks or is this a brand or something?

I have a SAN 220 also and am looking in to adding some additional ballast. It sounds like from this thread I should get 750 pounds but would be interested in seeing a link or a brand name of the bag(s) I should bu

I was thinking I just get a couple of fat sacs.

Parent company is Barefoot international. http://www.barefootinternational.com/ Click the picture with the wakeboarder to get to ballast gear.

I have never had any problems with the battery selector switch puncturing my bags. A lot people run this system and have not had any problems. I have ran this system for 3 years now and it has not crushed any panels.

Yes you piggyback off the existing system. Go to the link above for info on bags or complete systems. I reccommend buying just the bags you need and the fittings. It will save you money doing it this way. Most people will not need the psunami pump ior fat brick that comes with the complete system.

What sizes are the ballast hoses on the 08' 210's, 1 inch or 3/4 of an inch. I am about to do this exact same thing next week and I need to know that, so I know what size fittings to order.

I have an '08 230 and want to create a large wakeboard wake but don't want to burn up insane amounts of fuel just trying to plane lol. This setup will not be used for surfing.

                    Couple questions:

Would you guys recommend pulling the current hard tanks and just using the 750s or piggybacking on top of hard tanks?

Has anyone pulled their tanks and is it hard?

Has anyone upgraded their impeller or burned up their impeller with all that extra weight?

For those running the stock ballast + the rear 750s how much weight are you putting in the front? Just the 650lb bow sac?

I'm leaning towards pulling the rear tanks and just doing 750lb sacs + 650lb bow sac piggybacked on the belly tank.

Any comments would be greatly appreciated.

                    Thanks,
                    Will

The hard tanks are not difficult to remove, but I wouldn't remove them. If you are worried about the fuel consumption, I would upgrade your prop. That will make getting on plane much easier with the extra ballast and easier to hold speed onced planed out.

a new prop makes all the difference in the world. i think i have a 14.5x14.25 acme. it's a little too much for a moderately weighted boat, but when it's heavy duty time it couldn't be better. i'd leave the hard tanks in. do you change the pump switch timer or do most just hit the button again?
