New Surfer - Should I get a Big Red Woody?

I've tried surfing about three times behind my buddies Mastercraft X-30 last year. I could never stay up for longer than a few seconds but regardless, I'm hooked and just bought a new SANTE 220 to fuel my surfing passion.

I think the board I was on and my buddies wake may have been part of the reason for me not staying up. I'm a good wakeboard, fairly athletic and there's really no reason I shouldn't have been able to stay up.

I weigh 200 lbs. and am going to buy a Big Red Woody for this year's surfing. Am I wrong and if so, what board should I buy?

For your weight I would go with the Blue lake or Swallow. I weight 250 and ride the swallow. Where are you. I do have a Red tide I would like to sell.

I got that email from Inland Surfer as well. That board sold in about 30 minutes or so.

I am thinking of selling this one.

I am not sure what it is worth. It looks bad. I was going for the brushed look because it was always getting little scratches but it did not work out so well. No structural issues.

The Inland Surfer Blue Lake would be a great board for you. The Red Woody might be a bit big unless the wake is pretty small. If you arent using extra fat sacks and lead than you might want the Red Woody.

But RLS's Red Tide is a great deal. If you are looking to save a few bucks that would be a great way to get a good riding board at a decent price.

I'm very excited about the Shapiro once I get good using the Red Woody.

As a note: I have factory ballast and two, 400lb fat sacs. We'll see how this setup goes but may opt for more fat sacs down the road.

at 200lbs with the 220, you can surf ANY size board. literally any size board. i was 220lbs and could ride 4' boards behind anything. once you learn to keep the wave, you can ride anything at any weight, within reason ie 350 lbs on a 4 footer aint gonna happen.

if you bought a board for "big guys", you will be buyign something else very soon. you will out grow the surfability of a big board after you have gotten comfortable keeping the wave.

Make sure to post back here what you thought about the Ginsu. I am between that board and an IS Swallow.
