    fun board for kids

Im looking for the horseshoe shaped board to teach kids. Anyone have experience with these? are they safe?

Was it Air Tool that bought up all the fun boards?

This is what we used, but we had the Tower Boom for the first sessions.

http://hosports.com/WATER-SKIS/Combos/Hot-Shot-Trainers (except we used a regular rope and not the bridle shown in the picture). H O makes tail weights were very helpful to keep the tips up.

It was. I have two used and one NIB. Everything I have is for sale, but at an unaffordable price.

I've emailed O'Brien several times and told them they need to make these again. They've got to be high margin items IMO. They generally made one production run each year.

The Jimmy Jam is a decent replacement, the kid just has to hold the handle.

I liked the foam orbit strapless knee board as well....but it is gone too and mine is on its last leg.

How old is your 80lber?? He should be more then strong enough to go right to the ski's behind the boat. He probably is too big for any kind of trainers.

That's correct. For skiing, the bridle is handy and clipping the rope to the ski helps the first time or two. The bridles are available for larger skis also.

The fun board is a better start for learning to board and surf. It gives a great sensation of being behind the boat in a boarding stance.

Last year I saw something similar at Academy. Not as good but good enough. I'll check there next time to see if they have it this year.

For thoses toys that require you to hold the other end of the rope we use this relase and run it backward. It is designed to be attached to the rider so if they fall off the toy detaches from the boat but we attach this to the boat and the release string is held by someone in the boat. When the rider falls the adult in the boat pulls the release string and the kid is not dragged. They make a smaller model but I could not find it on the web. We had it for years and use it all the time when the rope is tied to the skis.
