    Ski recommendations

My wife slalom skis but skis very much like a beginner in that she pretty much gently moves in and out/over the wake. She is never going to try and advance her skill by any significant measure. What she skis on now is the generic ski that comes as a set of two skis with the one having the rear foot "strap". Because that ski is "fine" I'm not running out and throwing a bunch of coin down on a new ski but I think she might enjoy skiing a bit more if she was on something more "reassuring" so I am looking for something on the used market. Any suggestions? I also need something that would be a good ski to lean on, as I will now being trying to turn the younger generation of my family into skiers.

    Suggestions?

Even though you won't find it on the "used" market, you might want to look into the new HO-Freeride. It is an awesome ski for those wanting to go out to ski and have "fun" without the aggressiveness of a competition-level ski. Not a huge investment in $$ either.

it still has the rear toe plate (vs a boot) but I love my O'brien World Team. Better than a combo but still easy to ride. And it's been around for ever so should be pretty easy to find used.

Check out Ski It Again. Lots of great deals on used skis that will be perfect for her.

Thanks for the recommendation I will look into the o'brien. I'm glad I asked because much of what you see are the wider skis like the outlaw. Any experience with these skis?

There are several good options these days. I would suggest a mid width ski not a narrow comp ski. These will perform as well as the old Obrien world team but they will be more stable and easier to deep water start. I keep a HO Burner in my ski locker. I use it whenever I am injured or whenever I have a newbie on board. Mine has double high wrap bindings but I would be just as happy with a rear toe strap. If you end up going with a rear toe strap I would recommend against the adjustable variety and go with a good old rubber one. Pay attention to the skier weight and try to get them on a ski that is the right size or slightly larger, don't put anybody on a ski smaller than recommended weight unless they are a "good" skier.
