I still have a few of the ones that were made by "GOTT" I will see if I can snap a picture, the old guy is right man, those gas cans suck. Especially the part where the nozzle isn't the lowest part so to get all the gas out you have to turn it up like he does in the video.

Never used one of those new style can's, looks like a great solution.

Other then my small engine stuff, have not poured gas in years, these siphon hoses are the chit!!
No fuel on my lake, so all boat gas comes in via gas can.

What is with the fitting on the hose? Does that go in the gas tank or the boat tank? I am assuming the gas tank and it is to keep the hose from suctioning to the bottom?

The new style gas tanks are terrible! Unfortunately I only have one of the old style ones left, all my other ones seemed to grow legs over the years.

            Shawn,

Google super siphon, Bass Pro sells them and maybe even your local auto parts or walmart.

Just a siphon hose, the brass end is the suction end which works like a ball check valve, they work really well. Gas Can goes on the sun deck or dock, ideally higher then the fuel destination point, pulse the hose up/dn 3-4 times, siphon starts, hands free after that.

If you are pouring gas in your boat on a regular basis go buy one for $8, trust me!!

That's a good find. Luckily I don't have any of those newfangled cans, but now I know how to fix them.
One thing, if you follow this, be sure to get the plastic shavings out of the can after drilling the hole. He never did that, and you don't want that crap in the gas tank.

I haven't used one of those siphon hoses, but I did take off the original spout and clamp on a nice 3 foot piece of flexible tubing. Makes it way easier when you have a heavy 8 gallon tank. That way you can poor from the dock with someone holding the tube. Works like a charm.

Thanks Quinner I will have to check those out. I used to siphon the old fashioned way but got sick of the occasional drink of gas getting it started.

To start a siphon with out a check valve hose, get the siphon hose in the gas can, put the can above the tank the gas is going into, and get a second short hose. Stick both hoses into the can, and wrap a rag around both hoses where they go into the can. Blow air into the second hose to start the siphon.

The second short hose was what I was missing when I used to do it but that sounds like a good method too. I just had the one hose and a rag. I would blow into the gas tank and then cover but every now and then I would get a quick splash back and that was never fun.

That's a good one DC. Sometimes the obvious....just isn't so obvious.

You can go to your local West Marine and buy blue "water" tanks that have nice vents like older cans . I guard all of our 15 year old plastic cans with my life!!!!

Mike at Double Survivalists is my new best friend. I hate those blasted new gas cans! There a perfect example of just how stupid things can get here and how stupid ideas are being rammed down our throat like it or not. Nice post thx!

Has anyone made their own portable fuel tanks using an old plastic or portable fuel tanks? mounting on a dolly or fabricating on a wheeled set up and using a pump siphon handle seems like it may work fairly well. You can fine 50-60 gallon tanks which are manageable for a couple hundred bucks. Seems like it would be worth it since most of the gas buddy set ups dont hold much more than 20 gallons at the most.
