    Surfboard repair

Has anybody ever repaired superficial damage to their surfboard before? I got a brand new slingshot surfboard last spring, and went out for a ride, buddy grabs it it fresh out of the wrapper and jumps out with it, he proceeds to lose his balance and kicks it forward into the back of my boat. No damage to the boat but he chunked out the nose of my new board. Would an epoxy or resin work to make sure that I don't get water damage into the core of the board.

i used a waterproof epoxy to do the same to my surfboard last year after dropping it out of the rack onto the base of the tower mounts, put a nice 12" gash and pulled up the base about 3" in. just get yourself some good clamps, fill the deep gouges well first and let it set, then use more to smooth out the bottom and sides where it's damaged. i used it quite a few times after the repair and it wasn't noticeable. i don't remember the brand but i believe it was approved for plastic and other similar materials, and obviously waterproof. good luck!

I have a CWB RZR surf style board (lightweight foam core and single layer of fiberglass) that I loaned out and it came back with minor tip and rail damage and significant tail damage. I had to cut away the damaged glass and foam and fill the foam and then cover with glass fiber reinforced repair resin. For this repair I used the Solarez mini travel kit, the microlite white lightweight filler does great for patching foam and being solar curing you don't have to mix anything. I have also used the ding all repair kits as well and I have the Liquid Force kit in my travel bag. I have had to patch regular ocean surfboards as well in both polyester and epoxy versions and the epoxy one had white paint that I had to patch. I have also used the epoxy putty you knead together and apply in a pinch but it doesn't give the greatest finish. Pretty much any of them will give you a board you can keep using so pick your poison. If you don't have a better place to get it you can pick up most of the systems on amazon.
