Wakeboard extension pole and bow connection

My boat came with an extension pole and it has the forward connection that goes to the lower bow ring. Has some some nylon strapping that fits around the bow and a winch to tighten the support cable.

I have seen cleaner installations where the cable connects to the forward lifting eye and foregoes all the nylon strap and winches et all. I like this a lot more....cleaner, faster to install, all that.

Is this a conversion or are they sold this way?

You should be ok, but technically - that is not what that lifting ring was designed for - if you ask Correct Craft. It was designed to have a suspended vertical load with little movement side to side, or pulling. I believe the intent with the strap is to spread the load over a larger area and the bow eye stop. Do I think you'll be fine? Probably. But just be aware, that's all. My .02

The lifting eye is connected to a bracket that is glassed in to the bottom hull half. There is a bolt, that goes up from that bracket, and the lifting eye screws into that. If the pull on the lifting eye is verticle, there is no stress on the fiberglass deck of ther bow. The wakeboard tower would pull the lifting eye AFT, putting stress on the deck.
Is the deck strong enought to handle this rearward stress? I do not know.
I would rather not find out it was not strong enough, instead of figuring out the hard way, it was not.

I run mine to the lifting ring too. I just used a Lowes 1.5" ratchet strap

I have an extension pole. I use the strap below the hull, through the tow eye.

My .02 I have an 89 2001. I thought of doing the same thing and do do it when we are NOT out riding to clean up the look. I think it will be plenty string enough but... I would be worried that over time you will get stress cracks in your gel coat.
