    tower booms

I've got a '05 SV-211 and I'm lookin' at a tower boom. Does anyone have any first hand knowledge of these ? Barefoot Int. makes one for the tower, I had one of thier booms for my '98 Sport and it was great. Oh yeah, they want to know what dia. my tower is. My boat is in winter storage...what is the dia. of my tower. Thanks..............you guys always have the right answers

    RE: tower booms

IF you go with the BI tower boom it does come with adjustable brackets so that it may fit any size tower, however the brackets do scratch up your tower pretty bad and they impossible to put together. You must be standing on a dock while putting them on and have the angles perfectly right or else the brackets bind up. Unlike the usual pylon booms that just have the one bar, these have three plus the teather. If you don't need one right away then I would suggest waiting until they customize one for the small pylon behind the rear seat of your SV211. Hope this helps!

      RE: tower booms

Your SV-211 has a tower Dia. of 1 and 7/8 inches. By the way, when you get one mounted on your 211, post some pictures of it, I might want to put one on mine.

I've used the BI tower boom the last 2 seasons without any issues.
I mounted mine on the passenger side of the boat.
They aren't difficult to install and remove on the water at all. It is a 2 person task. The first time you install it I would recommend you doing it with the boat on the trailer. It will be much easier to get the alignment of the brackets correct.

I'm not sure about the scratching of the tower. I leave my brackets on at all times and my tower is polished.

              BI Tower Booms

I used the tower boom on my 211 this past summer. I really liked the setup and it worked very well. I attach the boom to the driver's side so that I can leave the boom attached when docked at my houseboat. I went with the BI tower boom to keep the interior free unlike the pylon model that gets in the way. Mike Seipel at BI told me that the 211 pylon wasn't high enough off the deck to properly mount (I took his word for it). It isn't as easy to attach as the pylon boom, but the interior clearance was more important to me. Very inconvenient for me to attach it if out on the water. If I am attaching the boom while docked at our houseboat, I have no problem at all. One pic shows the complete boom attached. The other shows the brace only attached. I leave the attachment brackets for the brace on my tower at all times so that it is easy to attach the boom when I want to use it. I would highly recommend the BI tower boom; don't tell Santa to stop delivery yet!

                I agree with sv211.
If you want to barefoot with a vdrive the tower boom is the best way to go.

If your worried about scratches put clear tape on your tower first then mount the brackets.

I paid $716 this past June for mine directly thru Barefoot International. They will probably direct you through a retail distributor. I was able to go direct because the distributor messed up and couldn't get the boom to me as promised.

I also have one on my '05 210. (Sorry no pics). I absolutely love it. I had the pylon mounted boom on my old (NON-CC boat) boat, and it was pretty good. Obviously, though, it won't work with CC, so I got the tower boom. It really is great. I was worried about torquing the tower sideways, but it really doesn't affect it. I just attach the support line to the front eye hook and pull it as tight as possible. As for scratches - I really don't know. It may scratch the tower, but I have the polished tower, so they're not gonna show much anyway. Plus, I never take off the brackets. Just torque those bolts down real tight so the brackets won't move.

I paid $500 for mine, but I got it directly from BI. It was the "demo" that they used for the Orlando Boat Show, so they knocked off a couple hundred bucks. If you want to save some $, call them up and ask them if they have any "demos" or or "previously packaged" or "returns" or "scratched models" or something. Other than that, $700 sounds about right.

Thx, aaron. Out of the water the boat doesn't show that well; however, on the water the colors really stand out.
