Who Skis On a GOODE ?

Do you have any feedback. I'm going to buy a new slalom this year and the Planet seems like a good place to start the process.

A close friend used to ski on a Goode, swore by it and couldn't see himself changing, BUT he just bought the OB Sixam 2 with double Wileys and loves it...

Mike, what can you do in the course now? If you're not getting into '32 off already I doubt it'd do much for you.

I have no course experience. Open water only. Probably to old to start thinking about bouys. I ski on an older HP and am looking for more performance at 32-34 mph 18-32 off.

Buy the Goode. It will be the best money you will ever spend. I went from struggling on an HO CDX for a few years at 15 off to being able to go from 15 off to 32 off in one season on my 9500.

Goode makes a fantastic product for use in smooth water. I try to avoid the course these days as I tend to hurt myself but I can typically run 28off/34 on my second or third try after being away for 6+ months. Last summer I started skiing on the Sixam 1.0, it has all the benefits of the Goode plus rough water stability. Now I don't mind skiing in a little chop. My Goode is an older model, the new ones may handle rough water better.

I love my Goode. It's a 9500, and the best ski I've skied on. It fits my style of skiing. Other skiers prefer other skis because those skis fit their style well.

My only cautions on a Goode are the quality of the construction and somewhat slow-to-respond customer service. The ski I had delaminated. I sent it in under warranty for repair and they fixed it. The downside was it took five weeks and the cost of shipping it back to Goode. It delaminated again out of the warranty period and it took forever to get their attention. Finally did and they sent a used replacement ski, which was fine. I just wanted to get rid of the lemon. But this time they sent the ski before I returned the defective one so I didn't have the down time as before. I still incurred the shipping cost. The last quality item is that the Goode skis don't use screw inserts for the binding holes. If you don't use epoxy, the screws continually work loose and many times strip out when you tighten them. BUT, great ski.

You might try Carbonworx. I couldn't ski the course at all until I got on a used one. Great ski. Faster than the D3 and more stable. Turns better too. I tried the Goode ski for two weeks. Loved it. Could not justify the money, though. So went to a D3 Custom 4 for half the price. Then I went to the CW at the advice of a friend. Went from getting only two balls at 15 off to running the course. Good luck.

Surprised you could make a carbonworx work. I took one turn on the ski (the one for the gates), fell in the wakes and hung that one up. I would try an O'Brien or an HO. The Goode is kind of cool if you like your $800+ ski falling apart after a season or less.

Mike, you might want to pull up andymapple.com and see/read his stuff on the new ski he is designing for Jobe. Early rumor has it that it is going to be one of the best out there. I ski an HO, love it, but with all of the shake up there, tough to say where HO is going to be in the comp-ski market in the next few yrs. Just my .02

When I said the Goode wouldn't do much, I meant it won't do much more for you any other high performance ski would. It is obviously a good ski, and made for SMOOTH water. It will be chattering underneath you if you're in open water.

I've skied a lot of different skis and the goode is hands down the best ski for me. I could'nt complete the coures 2 years ago, now I'am into 35 off....even free skiing the goode is so foregiving..ya got to try one...carefull of the speed they carry..they are a fast ski...

I ski on a Carbonworx as well and I tied for 4th in last years regionals and have run many 38's on my ski and on 3 other Carbonworx skis, it's a very good ski. Last fall I had access to a Monza and a 9700 and to help a friend out I skied both of them for about a week(6-10 sets each) enough to have them set up for my style and ability.

The Monza was quick cross course but I had difficulty turning it, I like to carve a turn and the Monza doesn't liek to carve, it likes to dive in and snap turn with out much warning of when it's ready to snap- that was my biggest issue with the Monza.

The 9700 was a great ski all the way around and it came close to skiing as nicely as my Carbonworx. I could make either the 97oo or my CW do the same things. My CW is paid for, no decision point there.

Lots of skiers out there give CW bad press but have not tried it or didn't do anything to set the ski up- That's ok, I tried the 6AM and didn't do a thing to set that ski up- I knew it wasn't going to work.

My question to the OP is why would you want to spend $1K on a competition water ski only to ride it in open water? It seems to me that there are numerous other choices on shaped skis that would perform better in open water and be less taxing and demanding of your body, allowing you to have a better time. If all your going to do is free ski I would suggest you go to wileyski.com and pick up and KD CR7 or 7000 for 300-400 buck and save the other 600 for gas and beer.
