Beginner wakeboard gear

I have a 13 year old daughter and a 16 year old son. We bought our boat late last year so neither got much time on the water. They both want to wakeboard and I have no idea where to start as far as a board goes. Is there an entry level board that will work for both until we see how serious they are about it. Do they even make adjustable bindings for boards or am I stuck with buying two boards?

What height/weight/ and footsize are they. Obviously, the adjustible bindings are not
as supportive, stable, etc. as fitted bindings, but they are a less expensive way to get started.
However, they only vary 3 or 4 foot sizes for the "better" adjustibles. Whether they could/should
share board will depend upon how much they vary in height/weight. BKH

We started last year, and these are my recommendations:

Buy quality equipment sized correctly and easy to ride. I use a Liquid Force Nemisis board and Liquid Force Element bindings for our 3 kids from age 8 – 11. Watch the foot sizing carefully, I had this rig put together by Joe at Skiers Wharf Extreme in Missouri. I’m riding a set of Obrien binding and will change them to LF this year.

Thebook dvd IMHO is a must! It is great to let them watch what is going to happen and what they have to do to be safe. Then the little rats get up on the first pull.

I think I'm gonna need two set ups, my daughter is a little tiny thing maybe 90 lbs soaking wet and my son is 6'3" with size 13 shoes. With that said any suggestions on affordable set ups for each, I hate to spend a ton if I don't even know if they'll stick with it.

jvuotto, I'll check out the dvd, probably save a ton of time to help them along, especially when Dad has never been on a board.

You will, without a doubt, need two setups.

We've got three boards. A Hyperlite Divine 119 that we used to teach my 8 year old daughter and her friends. They usually run about 50 pounds each soaking wet and it worked great. We have a CWB Sol 135 that my 14 year old son and his buddies have all had great luck learning on. It worked really well for all the boys (about 100 lbs each) except one who weighed probably 140 and had a hard time getting up on the Sol. As soon as we put him on my Liquid Force Omega 143 he popped right up. He will probably be better off on the Sol after he gets a little more practice. A bigger board will make it easier for your son and when he gets better he might consider a smaller one.

Without a doubt get 2 set ups. If you don't they'll never really be comfortable on the board, not to mention if one is goofyfooted....they'll always be changing the board set ups (more family arguments) . Look at www.evogear.com go to their outlet and you can find some real sweet deals. One other word of advice......get some "Slime" or whatever to put in the bindings. If you haven't tried to put a board on it's a lot of work, don't want them too tired before they even learn.
