    Good places to buy boards

I'm looking for a new wakeboard, and I'd like to demo some out before I buy anything. The only trouble is I can't find any places around here that have a good selection or will let me demo stuff. Does anyone have any ideas?

I'd hate to order one and then ship it back if I don't like it, even if they take returns. It'd be such a hassle.

    Thanks.

RE: Good places to buy boards

Sorry, I don't know of any places that demo, but evogear.com had great prices when i bought mine. Id just search reviews, try to find someone of your build and go off that. wakeboarder.com and wakeworld.com both have some good info on that topic.

Larry, I can give you 10 or 15 online stores with pretty good prices, but that doesn't solve your demo problem. Let me know. BKH

It's about 2 hours away but I know the Sea and Ski Sports place in the Grapevine Mills Mall in Dallas would demo boards in the past. Not sure if they still do it. You might check there. Also, the Slalom Shop in Lewisville, TX might be able to help you out.

Also might wanna check buywake.com or wakeside.com if you're looking at online retailers.

Thanks guys! I may have to do what mgswed said and read some reviews from people about my size.

Any of you about 5'11" and 170lbs and want to tell me about your boards? hehe.

I have had really good luck with buywake.com, good people, very knowledgeable on everything they stock, and their prices are excellent.

I am 6'3", 175 lbs. I have the Obrien Valhalla. It has 10 Fins. 6 are removable. I love it. LF Alphas for bindings. Those crooked fins look weird at first but they dont catch when doing slides. I have the middle version at 138 cm.

I bought some LF Alpha bindings last year! I love them!

Boardstop.com is where I get my stuff from. They are awesome, their support is awesome, just a great site all around.

The thing with online shops and pricing, they are all bound by what's known as MAP pricing, they are not allowed to advertise below that price. Companies are pretty strict about it too, some will pull their line from you if you get caught advertising below MAP pricing. (Advertising includes prices listed on websites.)

However, there is one online board shop that has a demo program, http://glassandpowder.com is the website. Or at least that used to be the deal.

Boardstop offers free shipping on all orders over $75. (Looks like you have to spend $400 or more to get free shipping at glass and powder. Even then it looks like no free shipping on boards.) If you email Boardstop you might be able to get a better price then the one advertised on their site. Like I said though, their support has always been TOP NOTCH to me and anyone I've ever known that's bought through them.

Oh and if you're registered on wakeboarder.com or wakeskating.com you can use the cupon FORUMUSER to get 5% off your first purchase!

I would suggest you try the 138 Murray. I find it to be a really great board. Rides nice, Soft landings, easy to break loose, good pop for a continuous rocker board.
My wife rides one, adn I am looking to an 06 myself.

if you come to Houston and go to Houston Watersports Complex - they will put you on their private lake and pull you to demo the boards - good selection too. 713-920-2157
