    Kids wakeboard setup help.

So my 4 year old has started asking to wakeboard. What board/bindings setup are people using and where are you finding the gear?

How times flies... About 5 years ago when my youngest daughter was 6, she started cranking out 360s on the kneeboard so we figured it was time to step up to wakeboarding... I searched the local shops, no one had anything that would fit her, so I went online and bought a LF Star package; with velcro bindings. We still have it, though she moved up in board size this year. I believe that the board is a 118, and the bindings are Y11-3 size. I think those are the smallest sizes available. From memory, I think I used closeoutdude.com when I bought the setup, that being stated, all the major online shops also offer kids' gear, maybe you can look in the classifieds on this site before buying new...

Yes liquid force is the only brand with the smallest binding for kids, I check all the brand websites a few month back and only liquid force offers such a low size binding.

If you kids fit in it fine, otherwise, you will have to wait

My son started on a 119 when he was 4 1/2. We got it at a dealer on the lake. Get the smallest bindings you can find, or put socks on to make his feet bigger. The best thing I did was pull him on carpet with a handle so that he could get the hang of fighting it too much vs not fighting it enough and going over the handle bars. It also helped for that transition to his hip to pull him straight. It was a painful process until we did this for 45 minutes, the next day he was up riding on a short ski rope (green). Now he's trying to get air less than a year later!

Liquid Force has a 115 that our four year old son uses. Bindings stay on him great and he's only 32 pounds. We got it at Sun and Ski Sports.

For the speed, above 10 mph and around 12 mph kids should be ok. They can even stay crouched and not in line for a few yard before getting up. You want to avoid them to face plant at high speed so they become afraid. When up and in line, they can start to go left and right while staying behind the boat and get some feeling on the board. Then they can try to go beyond the wave. Every kid will have a different learning curve, some take year to get up, some jump after a few hours.

If you are looking for something used, I have a little 109 Liquid force board that I'm going to sell. The bindings are small as well. I think they would fit up to Youth 2 or 3. The board is in almost new shape.

Before you just start pulling your kid (and maybe intimidating him so much he won't want to try again for years to come); Shaun Murray and LearnWake have some great videos online on how to prepare kids step by step. Recommended!
(My internet connection is extremely sh!te at the moment, I'll look for the links some other time when internet works fine again.)

There's the Shaun Murray YouTube clip that is pretty helpful. For my 6 yr old we have spent plenty of time in the water with no boat at the dock and in a pool to get him comfortable with swimming and having a board attached to his feet. This has helped a ton. We've also given him a rope at the dock and floated him out to where he could practice "start" by me pulling and running with the rope. This was fun for him and gave him a sense of what it's like to hang on and stay seated

Absolutely love your setup, looks awesome!! Wish I would've had stuff laying around to DIY something. Make sure you keep that as a memento for when they grow up! They'll show their buddies what they started out on. They'll get a kick out of it!!
