This past weekend a friend of ours was thrown from the "kite tube" and knocked unconscious. He was riding the tube when a gust of wind came shooting across the lake which made the tube take a drastic incline to nearly 30-35 feet. Upon hitting that altitude the tube bucked him off and sent him flying off in an awkward position.

He was taken to the dock where he regained conciousness, but began vomiting blood. 911 was called and off to the hospital he went. Two major problems with this particular situation: 1. They tied the rope off to the tower (which I understand is not recommended) 2. He was wearing the non-USCG approved jacket by Jet Pilot and began to sink after hitting the surface.

IMO: It looks like a great time...not worth dying for.

Maybe riders should wear the Sumo tube while on this thing?

I still think it looks like fun, maybe ride it with another passenger though to keep it somewhat down.

                    This is all I got...

ST. GERMAIN, Wis. -- A 42-year-old man was killed while riding on an inflatable tube kite on a Vilas County lake.

Authorities said that the man was floating several feet above Little St. Germain Lake when he hit the water on Monday night. Authorities said that he suffered fatal head and chest injuries.

Conservation warden Mike Sealander said that it appears the man hit only water.

The man was riding on an inflatable tube kite, which is towed by a boat and can become airborne.

                    His name wasn't immediately released.
