Shopping for an anchor for our 2003 Super Sport 210. We are in a lake with lots of underwater timber and possibilities for entanglement, and want something that will hold tight through rougher wake. Suggestions? Thanks!

I have been boating on SML for 50 years and have used the Greenfield anchor with no problems with any underwater entanglements

Yes you are correct. The traditional sand anchor and the box anchor (which many folks use on this forum) are notorious for getting hung up on the bottom on SML

Hands down box/slide anchor. It’s only drawback is it’s a bit heavy. The thing sets instantaneously in almost any condition.

I have lost 3 box anchors on this lake . The OP boats on the same lake as me. Box anchors are great anchors as I stated above and a very popular choice on this forum, but not the best anchor on SML . The Greenfield anchor is much better anchor choice on this particular lake

I use ours on some pretty heavy timber lakes. Haven’t lost one. Guess my experience differs in that regard. As you mention tho you’re on the same lake as the op. Something to be said for that . I’ve been hung up hand full of times on those timber lakes , managed to get it free every time.....but I’ve also been hung up on those lakes with other styles as well over the years. So would say there isn’t any more risk involved in my areas regarding that. Ive lost (1) slide anchor in the Illinois River haven’t a clue what could've got it , but it did . Obviously your mileage is different.

Yeah understandable . Dont want to get into a best anchor battle but based on my long experience on this particular lake , the Greenfield has given me the best results over time

The bottom youre dealing with always determines the best anchor for your particular use. Its a case by case for sure

I go with a hybrid style (not sure the name) here on Prior Lake which is typical of MN inland lakes. It has some mass, so most of the time in low winds, its just a lump on the bottom that I don't "set". Just thorw it over with a few degrees of scope, and its good enough for a calm day in party cove.. But in higher winds it can be set into looser bottoms (or more typically thickly-weeded bottoms) if deployed with enough scope. . I keep an old mushroom style and an extra 200' line on board as a backup.
