    Sticky wakeboard line?

Wakeboard rope is a couple years old, but the rubber/plastic coating on top of the rope has become tacky feeling. Is there anything to remove this, or is it just time to drop another $80?

Have you tried cleaning it with warm soapy water and a Scotch brite pad? I would give that a try before I buy a new rope.

If you have to buy a new rope check out Bullet Lines. They make a 75' Thermal coated Spectra mainline for around $50-55. I recently saw them on Ebay for $39.99. I have been very pleased with them.

Evening Shade About your recommendation on the Spectra lines. How do they hold up when shorting? I first tried a Ronix rope and it lasted a couple of years but began to come apart at the factory loops. I dropped some serious coinage on a Hyperlite Shawn Murray rope and IMO the rope is crap. The outer coating split within the first two rides (before I even shortened it). Then when I did the shortening exercise the outer jacket splits where ever we shorten it too (fold, loop around and split over).

I need a rope that won't give (no or little flex) and that I can shorten outside the normal points without it trying to come apart.

Thanks in advance for any suggestion.

I think if you shorten it outside of the normal loops it will cut through the thermal plastic coating.
