Fin setup Hyperlite SHIM

Not a big surfer but do like to rip it around from time to time. Riding a shim which is a good board for me. Wanted to see what’s the advantages of different fin set ups. I’m just carving and doing 360’s currently. At this moment I just have the center fin in now.

What year shim do you have ? The year matters due to what stock fins you have.


I am riding mine without the center fin and just using outside fins. Depending on the year your outsides may be significantly smaller. I am more of a surftstyle rider who likes to carve so the longer side fins allow me to really crank it . I have no probalem spinning 3’s and am finally getting some airs . I prefer it without the center fin so it rides a little more loose.

Yours shoulda came with two bluish honeycomb fins as the outers. Drop those in and take out the center .

I opted for a set of Chaos Wakesurf fins . They’re just a bit bigger than the blue honeycombs. so you have to pump a bit more with them. Fins really change the board characteristics more than people think. It’s worth trying a couple different ones if you can

What chaos fin did you go with? Seems like a decent upgrade. I’m 6’4 190lbs. Wondering if the large fins would be an upgrade
