    HO Approach Bindings

Anyone skiing with the HO Approach bindings? I took a header this morning and completely tore the velcro overlay off of my front boot and on one side of my back boot. The straps ripped right at the place that they are screwed to the heel of the boot. I called my local dealer do get replacements and HO told them they were backordered 3 weeks? Looks like I'm not the only one with this problem. Any of you have the same experience? I guess I'll be using duct tape for the next 3 weeks! :x

I changed 3 in one year. It's a bad design.

You recalled me to check the binding, I guess I've to change it again soon.
The edge of the plastic piece where the screws are is too sharp, I think I'm going to file it, what do you think?

Just cut the bottom of the piece off and drill new holes in the rubber. your piece will only be a 1/4 inch shorter and will get you through til they come in. make sure to get extras so your ready for the next break.

Yeah I thought of that. I'm more concerned about how to prevent it in the first place. I woke up with a pretty swollen/painful ankle this morning. If my foot had stayed flat in the boot and not released half way I wouldn't be hurtin today!

Have you thought about modifying an Option 2 (from Hyperlite bindings) strap?

Ripped mine last week in exactly the same spot. Bad design. Emailed HO but got no response. Not good news that they are on back order.

My ankle is pretty messed up. I may be out for the rest of the summer. No fracture but severe ligament/tendon damage. Very disappointing!

If anyone has a RFF medium in good shape, I will take it off your hands.

Which part of the strap broke? I may still have an extra from my short stint on the approach boots. After two OTFs where the boots did not release, I went with Wileys fearing for my ankles. To be comfortable, the Approach boots really have to be cinched down tight. They perform great, but it seemed to me that they would require a lot of force to release in a fall. At least that was my experience. I know of others who swear they have released fine for them.

At any rate, send me a PM and I'd be happy to see if the spare strap I have will work for you.

I replaced my third strap a few days ago, the front one does not seem to have the same problem, just the rear boot. My replacments were very kindly provided by H2Osmosis FOC as that is were I purchased my boots (thanks guys). I have take the issue up with HO who seem very reluctant to do anything about what is obviously a very poor design. I will be contacting them again as I have no spares left and at the current rate will need at least another couple more replacements before the end of the season.

Got my replacement straps from a local dealer last week. HO picked up the cost as a waranty claim. That's pretty cool since I never asked them to nor did I even state how old the boots were. They even gave me new (red)overlays for bothe boots. Yellow_Flash_Colorz:
