Throttle Control

Hi, got a 1997 196 S N here in the UK, yesterday it failed to pull the throttle cable back twice, needing quick ignition off, what type of control system is used to this boat? both cables are free and no obstructions at the motor end, so has to be the control unit I think.
Looking for inspiration!
