Summer hasn’t started yet and I’m posting about next winter, ugh!
I’ve recently moved and probably won’t have indoor storage for next winter so I did some research on how I would store my boats.
I’m certainly going to winterize the boats but I wanted something more than that, I read some existing posts, did some of my own research, and got some additional feedback (thanks Jeff!) and the result is that I’m going to do exactly what some of you are already doing: Xtreme heaters with a wifi temperature alarm.
Some added info and opinions:
- If you’re thinking about getting a bilge heater, I certainly recommend the Xtreme heaters. I looked at several other brands and spoke to some manufacturers, I’m completely sold on Xtreme.
- Don’t wait until the last minute! Supplies are low (many of the Xtreme heaters are already on backorder) and prices seem to be going up on everything.
- On the Xtreme heaters website you get a big discount if you order two, if you only need one, try to find someone else that also needs one and save some money.
- When I spoke to Xtreme heaters, they recommended going up one size if your boat is going to be stored on a trailer or lift. If left in the water, the water acts as an insulator. (I ordered the 450 watt for my GS22)
- Even though I’m going to fully winterize my boats and they’ll have a bilge heater in them, I still think getting the wifi temperature alarm is a good idea. It’s extra protection for very little money. Again, I’m copying what others have already done: Govee WiFi Thermometer Hygrometer H5179
Have a great summer and enjoy the boating…….winter is inevitable, be prepared.
