A while ago I was intereste in some helmet cams... see this thread
My friend made an awesome vid of this summer, its about 30 min long and filled with awesome shots... so I got this to make this snowboard/snowski seasona and next summer even better. I just got it today and messed around with it. So far, so good! It runs on 2 AA batteries, which is good b/c it means its very portable. If you're on the boat, you can just bring spare batteries and dont have to worry about charging on the boat. Whats nice also is that its totally independent, as in its not just a lense that plugs into a video camera. Although that would be best for quality, this is the only thing that I found that would work out in the water. You can't bring a cam in the water obviously. Yes, it is waterproof up to 3m.
The quality is alright. Of course its not going to be great, its what you'd expect from a cam this size. When we put clips from it into the real vid they will stand out and it will be obvious that it was filmed from a small cam. Then again, it will be cool seeing impferfect quality film, kinda gives the viewer a cool perspective... I have no complaints about the quality considering its a small helmet cam.
Nonetheless, for what it is, its great! Its very simple to use. Its all digital. It comes w/ 32 meg built in for memory, but that is nothing. If you want to record at the highest quality, you'll want at 2 gig SD card. Thats what we got at staples for 8 bucks, and it lets you record about an hr of helmet cam media.
Bottom line: It makes a great gift! Its totally self-sufficient and anybody can use it. It is very cheap compared to other helmet cams out there. This is a must have for anyone into making wakeboarding vids. Can't wait to give it a shot on the slopes...
