My 16 year old daughter is ready for the course. She has been skiing on her brother's hand-me-down HO and has earned her own ski. Anybody have any suggestions? She is 5'8'' probably 130 lbs (some things are not discussed between father and daughter and exact weight is apparently one of them). She is strong and athletic, but just now starting to cut. I have been pulling her at 15 off, 28 -30 mph.

RE: women
If you are using any any ski coaches with her, ask them. Ask for advise at any local tournament lakes she skis at. Local ski shops will help you, but they also want to sell you skis, and always remember they are in business to make money, and may be more motivated by their profit than what is best for your daughter. The local shop might have a demo program, where you can put a deposit down on a ski, try it, and bring it back if she does not like it.

My wife and I were in the same situation till I bought her a new HO Esprit 66. She has always skied on my ski and just never looked comfortable back there. This year with the new Esprit under her feet she is cutting faster, crossing through the wake smoother and has more confidence than I have ever seen. My thoughts is that wider is not better for girls since their smaller bodies just get the crap kicked out of them when they hit a SN wake. Go with a traditional shape ski with more defined bevels for better control and less surface to have to cut with while going accross the wake. No reason to go with HO Siren for instance unless your daughter is into the coarse and making tournament improvements.
