Best Place For Coated Lead

Now that www.leadheadz.com is no more, has anyone found a good source for coated lead? I'll see what my local board shop has the next time I'm down there, but I'm wondering what other people are using.

Good luck. I just went through searching for that stuff about a month ago. I ended up just buying some lead weights and then picking up some of the Plastic Spray coating from Home Depot. Took about 5 coats, but seems to have been a sufficient solution.

Has anyone used the bar weights that are on machines at the gym? That might be one alternative, and it is much less expensive. Maybe I'll look into that.

Last time I needed Lead I went to Cabellas and bouight 25#bags of #9 shot for $8.00 in bags. I think I'd try a gun shop or maybe Wal-Mart

I went to a local recycler, and bought lead for $.30 a pound , melted it down and poured it into foil bread pans. About 3 coats of plasti-dip. Makes some very nice 25 pound bricks.

I don't know how much weight you are looking but you can buy 100 lb. dumb bells pretty cheap.

I just purchased some Lead Barz made by ProFlight from my local Nautique dealer. The come in 65 lb bars. It retails for about a buck a pound. The are rubberized too. Here is a link : www.Proflighttowers.com

Be careful with the Dumbell Weights, because they tend to rust very easy. I have 2 60lbs in my boat... just make sure you coat them with something and don't rely on the paint on the barbell.

I am in the grocery store / restaurant equipment business. We had a bunch of 50lb. test weights that we used for checking scale accuracy. You might look under "scales" in the phone book. They might have some old ones laying around. I know we did - they are now in my 226. They have a handle on them so we can easily unload them if we need to.
