    Christmas Ski ?

I am thinking about a new ski for Christmas. I am 5' 8" and 240 lbs. I know short and fat. I am also bald and until a few years ago I wore glasses. Anyway I currently ski on an HO ASX and I think it is 68" long. I like the ski but I have put on some pounds since I bought it. When I stand upright to catch my breath the ski sprays me in the face. It is hard to catch my breath. I just free ski at between 30 and 33 MPH. I have been skiing all my life and want to keep skiing but I do not enjoy it as much.

I have looked at two skis . Both are made by HO. One is the Triumph and the other is the Free Ride series. I have to decide between the 69" or 71". Any help would be great.

The bigger the ski, the less stress on your hands and back, and the less you get tired. If you only ski recreationally, why would you want to make it any harder on yourself than necessary. My vote would be for the bigger ski. BKH

I have stopped at two different "Pro Shops". One said go long and the other said they longer ski will be harder to cut on. My first thought was the longer ski but in the back of my mind I like the performance.

I have not seen those skis. I will keep looking. The dealers I have been to have a very small selection.

At 240lbs, look to either more ski surface area or increased speed. Triumph is just a tad wider than your ASX...check out the Freeride series.

I think I have decided on the Freeride series. Now to go 69" or 71"? I will keep the ASX for when I loose weight.

                  ASX

                  RLS,

Stick with the ASX, great ski! Speed up to 34 and even your weight front to back. Spray in the face is due to too much weight on your back foot and riding the ski "flat". Keep on an edge, more forward stance, nice carves side to side with a good rhythm, you'll have less stress and fatigue and be able to ski longer. It's all in the technique.

                  Ski on!

                    RE: ASX

I found a HO 71 magnum for $125.00 new with bindings. I am thinking I will use it to get in shape on and then switch to the ASX after building a little stamina. I may also play with the binding placement a little also. I can't wait till spring.
