RE: BEST WAKESURFBOARD FOR A BEGINNER
At your weight I would go for the Inland Surfer Blue Lake or Red Tide which I think is the Red Woody now. I am 240 and the Red board has been the best on most wakes. Go to their website. They have a few good how to videos. I have been happy with their boards. They scratch very easy.

I first learned on a Hyperlite broadcast, then tried a landlock, couldn't free ride with either, but was also still learning, and figuring out the wake needed to look like on our boat. I purchased a Inland Surfer Red Tide 07.5, and I learned to free ride and so did my wife.
I've had friends pick up free riding the first or second time up on that board.2008 230 TE-ZR6

I have the red tide. i am a little heavier than you and have a dd so a small wake. I love the red tide. i can free surf just fine with some weight in the boat. i also have a broadcast that i can not free ride on. my wife on the other hand can ride either without a problem. If had to do it all again i would have reaserched boards more and not bought the broadcast. The more custom boards cost a little more but you would not need to upgrade later. Just my 2 cents.

I have a 97 sport. I have not been in a 216 but i would think they would be similiar. You have an advantage in the fact that you have at trunk you could put weight in. i fill up 2-3 large fat sacs depending on the amount of people we have and it seems to work. Sometimes we have 6-8 people and i have only use one sac, 300-400 lbs and it has given us a decent wake.
have you surfed before?

Yes, I have surfed before behind my MC Maristar and a neighbors CC 220. On the MC we would run 2 boards, one on each side of the wake. I bought the 216 to improve my ski wake and still provide a wakeboard wake for my kids. I can't wait to get her in the water. tick, tick, tick06 Air 216 TE

Kozmo,
We tried surfing a friend's 216, and I couldn't really get the wake I needed to free ride with my Red tide. We had the stock ballast and about 430# of passengers, but I got everyone in the back corner port side, except of course driver. I then tried on the starboard side (normally is better because of prop rotation) and still no dice. I didn't have the time to mess with speeds because the natives were getting restless...We were trying from 9-13mph...
I would think that you will need an extra ballast bag for the side you're going to surf, or a heavier crew than we tried with.2008 230 TE-ZR6

Although my boat is different and does not have internal ballast we have had luck with putting one big sack on the riders sice of the the engine, one behind the engine, and one either in the ski locker in the floor or on the back seat if we have very few people with us. I would think if you put one in the ski locker in the back with the rest of the people on the riders side you could make it work. I have found that weight up front helps as well. I also ride the red tide and have been able to free ride. Speed was between 9-10.5.
