    What Speed for Tumble Turn...

What speed do you need to be going for a tumble turn on a wakeboard? Anyone do one?

Are you referring to dropping down and spinning on your back before popping back up on the board? If that's what a tumble turn is, then the only person I've seen do one is Shaun Murray. As for speed, it's not about the boat speed, but the speed you generate on the board when cutting out that is important.

there is a great article in alliance mag (i think) on how to do these. Murray is the instructor and it takes you step by step through the process. As far as speed, you just ride at normal speed I think the key is staying on edge really hard all the way out until you start your tumble. Oh and also a life vest that doesn't allow much drag. I'm going to work on these a little this year, let me know if you come up with any pointers

when learning its beneficial for the driver to use the throttle... back when you go down, up when you are ready to come back up. eventually you need to be able to do it at full speed.

My friend Jason (Corerider on PN) does them all the time, although not on purpose, and usually on a botched 5 attempt. He falls, winds up on his back still holding on, then manages to spin around and get back up. It's ugly, but if the driver doesn't throttle down, he can usually pull it off. He is built like a stick, so I'm sure that has something to do with it. We call him Jesus when he does it... Because Jesus saves (the trick)!
