Gonna be down in Charlotte over the holiday weekend and we are heading out to Lake Norman on Sunday. Anybody ever been or have any advice as to the lake conditions, good chill spots, environment, etc?

RE: Lake Norman in Charlotte
One word: BUSY.
Okay, I'll add a few more. The lake level is about max'd out and the water temp is 70-73 degrees. Find a cove because with the amount of traffic, the main channel will be brutal.

RE: Lake Norman in Charlotte
LKN is my favorite lake! It used to be a blast when the raftups were allowed. These days tthe sandbar is usually where its at.
Don't forget to hit up the Rusty Rudder. It never dissapoints! Also, midway marina has a good, cheap breakfast.
A great area to ski is next to 77, on the west side. Small area that isn't too wide, but is long and smooth enough. Forget what mile marker though.
I will be there again for the forth of july. Man, I wish I could find a job there like I have here!\'03 196 LTD

RE: Lake Norman in Charlotte
I live about 2 minutes from LKN in Huntersville. It's a huge, fun, BUSY lake. The main channel is brutal, especially on a windy day... feels like the ocean. The north side of the lake is alot less choppy (Mooresville area) with more secluded coves to board/ski in. The south side of the lake (Huntersville, Cornelius side) is more busy and choppy, but has some restaurants that you can cruise up to (Rusty Rudder, Midtown Sundries, Vinnie's at the Lake), which is chill. Also, be careful as there are a ton of cops cruising the lake on the weekends, especially holiday weekends.1993 Sport Nautique - SOLD 5/10

RE: Lake Norman in Charlotte
I do hope they don't have the jet boat races like they did last Memorial Day Weekend...It REALLY messed up an already busy lake. Didn't believe it was that safe, either. They raced ALL the way up the lake!
