So. We're planning a bachelor party and our latest idea involves towing a boat to a cool lake or river and basically drinking a lot, wakeboarding, etc. and maybe towing an inflatable 'party island' with a keg in the middle. We live in central NH but are willing to travel to pretty much anywhere in new england or NY within reason, as we're all from NE or NY/NJ. Any ideas of good lakes with flat water and lots of bars or at least a few good ones, and places maybe to camp out, or good places to stay all accessible by boat? Our lake would be perfect if it wasn't our lake. we need a new place to explore and also one that maybe doesn't have excessive law enforcement, if you know what I mean. Like it would be fun to putt around the lower Hudson but I suspect there are some more serious patrol boats down there than the ones we have in NH...

RE: Bachelor Party
i dont think you'd have to worry about the cops if you went to the lower hudson, if you're talking below the tappan zee. those boats have bigger problems to deal with, like barges, cruise ships, and yachts.I Nautique, therefore I am.

RE: Bachelor Party
Do you ride in that area at all? I see you're from NYC. If so, how is it, in general? I guess another concern in that area is the wakes from those bigger boats, and/or just chop from it being a large open area. The closest I've been to the water in that area is up on the Tappan Zee in a car. Maybe further upstream where it's a little narrower would be better? A lake would be ideal, I think...How 'bout a little reverse action...

generally speaking, you wont see any boats much smaller than 30' in the hudson down by the city unless they're jetskis. sometimes the water appears to be really calm, but i wouldn't bet on having a good day of skiing or boarding on it. in the 80s my uncle took a 2001 out on it to see fireworks under the brooklyn bridge one night and said waves were crashing over the bow left and right. he also said 3 years later he needed a new trailer b/c it was rusting to death. bottom line is if you're looking for a great day of crusing, yea the hudson down there is going to be great. just make sure you flush your boat well right afterwards and be careful--its certainly possible, but risky. theres also not really places to stop on the river for boats like this, at all...
the hudson up north above the tappan zee and by the bear mountain bridge is a different story. i've never been there, but i hear its nice.
i go to a couple lakes up in connecticut. they're awesome. one's good for parties (got the bar/rest., rope swing, big lake with many small coves, but rough), other is just really calm but has nothing interesting on it.I Nautique, therefore I am.

RE: Bachelor Party
The first of those two conn lakes sounds like the type of thing we're looking for... it might be asking a lot but ideally it would also have a place we could stay (or camp) without trailering the boat...How 'bout a little reverse action...

RE: Bachelor Party
Umm sorry if you misunderstood but I didn't say we'd all be wasted and driving around drunk, posing a threat to the general public. Everything in moderation, right? We are responsible boaters who also like to have fun and yes have some beers in the boat also... I realize the implications of "bachelor party" but I assure you we plan to be safe, as always. How 'bout a little reverse action...
