    Mead or Mohave?

My girlfriend and i are about to go on a colorado river trip and are picking up an rv in las vegas to go to Lake Powell for a week and the to Mohave or Mead, then to a house on the colorado river. Hopefully we are going to check out Havasu as well. Which lake would have less crowd and have the smoothest water between Mohave or Mead? and as far as the colorado river goes, which would be the best part for wakeboarding? We are looking at a house in Blythe and one in Bullhead city. The lady said that there can be a lot of sand bars by her house in blythe. She said the the river is 3 feet higher in the morning than in the afternoon. That sounded weird to me but i guess she knows better than me. If any one is familiar with these areas some info would be greatly appreciated.

Mead over Mohave. Where in Blythe.. north of the 10fwy? You will have the River to yourself in Blythe.

Mead is significantly larger than Mojave. You should be able to find glassy water just about any time during the day...if you're willing to look for it. When the wind comes up, I don't like being on either Mead or Mohave. They both can get 3-4 ft sweels.

As far as Blythe vs Bulhead city...Blythe for sure. You'll have the river to yourself and down there you'll experience sand bars rather than rock bars. It is true there are a lot of sand bars in Blythe. If you go, I highly recommend just cruising a bit so you can scout them out.

The water level does fluxuate a lot in Blythe (all along the Colorado River Valley for that matter) because it's primary purpose is to provide water to the farmers. As the farmers needs arise, the water level goes up. If a storm just blew through and dumped a lot of rain, there will be less water released because it won't be needed.

I have a lot of friends that go to Blythe and they swear they won't go anywhere else because they have glass all day everyday. My only concern is the sand bars, but the glass sure is enticing. But once you know where the sand bars are, you should be good to go.

Sounds like a great trip. Enjoy yourselves!!!

Thats why they call it a river .

You wont really notice the current til your picking up riders or approaching docks to park. Its not like on a lake...youre always moving. Weather should be great, find the sandbars before they find you!

"Thats why they call it a river . " i grew up on a river but the current was not noticeble, would probably take you 2 days to drift 2 miles, the wind would move you faster. so i guess its just knew to me.

I haven't been in about 2 years, but from the report from the family this year the river at Needles hasn't changed (compared the past 12 years I can remember going) . If you run about 2-3 minutes downstream of Needles Marina Park the water is usually glassly from 5-7 or 8, depending on the day during the middle of the week. Weekends become crowded very quickly, so we're on the water by 0545 and off by 0700 (during the summer only, way too cold past August/September).

We did a week on a houseboat on Lake Mead last summer and had a blast. The worst part was a storm killed the power at the local marina and we wern't able to get gas there, so we had to go across the lake to the other marina and took a wave over the bow in the snob...that was interesting...rear bilge pump died with that one. But the water was amazing as long as the winds were calm, we were even treated to a 2 full days of really good water thanks to the cove we were camped out in.
