NCMA show at the Alameda County Fairgrounds that was supposed to be this week was canceled. Bummer --- I had been looking forward to going for the past month. I called NCMA and apparently they just couldn't get enough participation for a January show this year. That is too bad, that is generally the best show in NorCal every year. Next show is in Sacto in March. Guess I'll have to wait....

RE: NorCal Boat Show Canceled this week...bummer...
Sadly, it's a sign of the times. Look how many dealers have closed or been merged with other dealerships. Many manufactures in all different industries have looked at shows as a way of cutting expenses. Between the cost of employees to work the show, electricity (huge expense), and if you're having a show at a union house the cost of bringing items in can be very expensive as well (Alamda County FG is not a union house). The sad part about no show this weekend is the weather will be great, people would probably venture out to check out new boats.....even if they can't afford them. Then again, does a dealer want to waste 20-45 mins talking to a customer that has no interest in purchasing a boat?!?!? Not a stretch to figure a dealer could be well over a $100k into a show by the time all is said and done and if they don't see the return on sales you can imagine how they would feel.

You're totally right, sign of the times. When you have major dealers like Cope & McPhetres and Olympic going out of business, the dealers that are still barely standing can't afford to take on a show right now. But selfishly, it was always a great place to take the kids, see the demos/exhibits, and check out the latest. Not sure the whole family will want to make the 3 hour drive to Sacto for the March show...then again, that might be a good thing!2003 SANTE

I received a notice from the dealer where I purchased my boat. Instead of spending the money on the boat show they are providing deeper discounts to customers.
Smart move on their part.SocBum
