how long will my suv last?

2004 5.3L 4x4 yukon w/ 80,000 miles. i ALWAYS change the oil/filter when it should be changed, and keep everything else in good shape as well as far as fluids, fuses, etc. how many years/miles would you estimate that she can keep running w/o being a money pit?

Just sold mine with 102k miles and never had any problems. Liked it so much I bought another (Tahoe this time). I have owned 3 Toyota’s 1 Honda 2 Nissan's and 2 GM's. GM the best of the bunch, Toyota 2, Honda 3 and a distant 4th is the Nissan. IMO Americans build a great truck.

154K on my 2000Yukon XL. Towed the boat from CA to Wisconsin and back this summer. Never done anything to it except routine maintenance, tires, and one set of brakes. Do change the oil every 3K (not sure why, but I do). Still runs and looks great.

130k Ford Explorer Eddie Bauer. Nothing but tires and oil cahnges. Pulls as good as the F150 but does not stop as well. Drive it to the wheels fall off.

I have a 72 chevy pickup with 300K miles on the original motor and tranny with no issues. A well maintained vehicle will last many miles. Keep your truck it will be a very long time before the maintenance on it equals a new car payment

RE: how long will my suv last?

A buddy of mine just sold his 95 2dr tahoe to another buddy for a giveaway price of 2500.

It had 280K miles and required few repairs. His new 4dr has been in the shop several times and his dashed cracked in half so all that's got to be replaced now.

I have an 03 Yukon that apparently was a lemon. Bought with 62k miles in 05. now has 105kand here is the list of stuff that has crapped out since we bought it:

                  Speedometer
                  D/S front window motor
A/C compressor followed by the evaporator
                  Rear Air
4x4 selector motor ($500 part that does what a stick used to do)
                  Water Pump leaks
                  PS pump leaks
                  front axle seals leak

Only still have it cause i can only get about 10k for it, and i refuse to lose my butt as i will need it at the end of the summer to pull a boat. I am confident that the engine will last, just the accessories continue to crap out on me.

                    All,

Lets see. 2001 Excursion, 87k mommy wagon also used to move the Nauti. Alternator went, new brakes front (cadmium coated power slots....LOVE), new shocks (Rancho adjustable), had to replace all the power door locks. I think I can get at least 200k and at 87k she is maybe getting broke in. Oh, yeah. Did I mention, she has the Navistar Diesel..........can you say diesel power. She is getting a chip tunner this spring (not sure of all the programs) with window column gauges.

But the best improvement I make as often as I can......our 2004 216 White, Black, Silver on the back. IF ONLY Ford had made the trim on the Eddie Bauer in gray....would have been Oh So Sweet.

97 explorer - replaced all locks at 60K ("greased" under warranty, the fixed on me)
                        99 navigator - 3 locks drag ...one dead all at 80 K
                        dad's 97 f150 - locks draging at 150K dead at 250K (now pushing 300K)

Is there a pattern on these locks?....dealers tell me no.

They have to be right....right? They're dealers and should know! Right?

My wife had a 97 explorer that went 260K miles before we sold it back to Carmax.

Traded in my 2003 Avalanche with 238,000 miles and it still ran great. Needed a fuel pump which was $850 and lights quit working in steering pad, but other than that it ran great. I always kept up the maintenance, so it could have gone longer.
If you don\'t do it today, you will be one day older when you do!!

                              Air Tool,

Brother-n-law is head mechanic at a Ferd (spelling on purpose) dealership. He asked me if the locks had gone yet.....then they did. The mechanics know. Navistar.......check all the idler pullies every oil change after 60k till they fail (and they will). On the older with the vacuum pumps....replace with a lifetime waranty one as it will go about every 60 - 80k or sooner. Both of these are know problems.
