    Wakeboard winch is done!

So with summer aproaching, my buddy decided to build a wakeboard winch. We had it out for its maiden voyage yesterday and the thing works great. He couldnt have done a better job on it. Its a 8.5 hp briggs with 600ft line ans its set up to pull at 20mph. check it out

note: yes, shaun murray signed it at the cleveland boat show

what size sprocket are you using? and do you have a cc clutch or tav? inner diamter of spool? is the engine slidable or fixed? it's a great low key design.

motor is fixed. its the tav2 . the drive sprocket is 10 and the spool sprocket is 48. inside of spool is 8" and its 9" wide. Sometime he is planning on mounting a plexiglass sheild and diverting the exhaust twards the ground.

crads- yes we have been using it in the snow alot. I believe i talked to you on here b4 and you were from the pittsburgh area. We are about an hour north of pit and we still have about 8 inches of snow. Its melting fast though but at least summer is getting closer. Maybe we can meet up one of these days.

have you tried deep water starts ever? i'm thinking you'll need a bigger sprocket. the inner diam. sounds perfect. with a tav you should totally work on a releasing spool. other than that it all sounds and looks awesome.

definitely the best way to spool it is to get the line out almost as far as it will go while still having a couple tight wraps and cut back and forth.

I noticed the exhaust on the first post but I didn't have time to post a comment.

                      Also....who applies the brake?

winches are very easy to operate. i don't even have a brake on mine(wish i did). if you have a brake instead of cutting the engine off and letting go of the throttle you can just cut the throttle and hit the brake, leaving the engine running and not cranking it after every fall. they are the most cost effective pull out there.

So is the brake normally applied then the operator opens the brake during the pull? or opposite?

I wonder if a "smart brake" with a sensor in the tow handle would be cool.

Right now we just cut the throttle about 20ft away. My buddy has a disc brake on it(pics above) but its not hooked up yet. It will be handy once it is though. Cant wait to water test this thing. Im possitive we will within the next month and i will post a vid, and let you all know how she does.

Thanks....this planet has probably figured out I'm an engineer...and I'll volunteer that the medication I'm taking for the symptoms is not helping as much as it should
