if you designed a winch that could be used by the rider alone you would dominate the market(assuming it isn't insanely expensive) airtool, check out neverride.com they make an amazing winch you will probably appreciate.

We got a 60 deg day. Myself, latonkaboarder, and a few friends got out the winch again. Lake is still half frozen but with the low water level we were able to get the jeep down to some good spots. Ended up getting fined $120, but still had a great time.

RE: Re: RE: Re: RE: Wakeboard winch is done!

the brake on winches simply stops the spool from rotating anymore to prevent whiplash and having to cut the motor and cut back on any spool tangling. the tav2 helps w/ backlash though. i don't get to use mine too much, but if the day ever comes i have to get rid of my boat or something crazy goes down i can still get a pull on a lonesome body of water, for cheap.

That looks like a blast. Nice setup.

          What was the ticket for?

ya he really did a great job on the winch. I did a deep water start and it didnt struggle at all. The fine was for having a vehicle down on the shore. We wernt down very far at all from the launch, and its not like we were tearing up the shore line. We knew we would get fined if they saw us. The fish n game commision are very money hungry around here and dont have any sympathy for anyone. Last year it was surfing now its the winch. He claimed he was letting us slide on not wearing life vests in the waist deep water. Going to fight it in court again.

Anyone else seem to get pinched alot for harmless things on their lake?

I'm currious, Aside from your time and knowledge to build this, how much $$ in materials and the motor/trans did this cost?

it all depends on the engine, spool, and if you can weld or not. on the low end, DIY, about 1000 w/ rope give or take. check out www.wakeskating.com and go to the winch forum. basically everything you might need to know.

RE: Re: RE: Re: RE: Wakeboard winch is done!

My buddy made it, and he claims he has a total of $750 into it. Hes a mechanical engineer, so when he had down time at work he made the entire spool. Welded the frame at home. Got the tav2(clutch), sprockets, chain, brake..ect. from Northern. The line is from bullet lines. Motor was purchased from ebay. And I donated the handle. Its definitly cheaper to make one yourself if you have the ability. I know a grinch winch and others are upwards of $3k

wakeslayer..Last year they said we were teak skiing, and i have to have a minimum of 10ft of line out. I do remeber hearing that some people were fighting for it to be legal late last year. I havnt heard anything since
