I do, especially when I am running one of my other programs on my Dodge. I just wipe it down when I get to my destination. Doesn't seem to stick as long as I keep the boat waxed. I also whipe it down after every time out which also help pull any soot off that I didn't get the first time.

Diesel soot is carbon, that is not being burnt by your engine. Long story short, you are running too rich.

Never going to be able to desoot that thing no matter how little fuel you run. it's still a diesel.

Diesel Soot is unburnt fuel not carbon. You really cant run too rich so to speak in a diesel. All turbo diesels will let some fuel by until the turbo spools to pump enough air in with the fuel for a clean burn. If you have ever watched any truck pulls by a diesel you would see what running rich is. The pullers pour it on as thick as they can get it. seach on youtube for diesel truck pulls to see some soot. My dodge with no box has never had a soot problem, but with a box it is an issue.

Soot is "partially" burned fuel. Unburnt fuel would not be in a solid, particulate form. Fully burned diesel would leave the carbon to form CO2 or CO as products of combustion.

The other biz you speak of is closer to correct and generally termed "percent smoke".

There are two definitions of percent smoke I remember...but I'm not sticking my neck out with them. One is related to load test destruction in 24 hours....the other is exhaust opacity.
