Water Mishap!

Well heres a new one for ya. One of our young friends (25 -165#) got his wakeboard on as usual on platform and went to hop off into water as usual and grabbed rope as usual only this time rope got a loop in it some how and we guess his weight tightened the rope and it removed the end of his thumb at the first joint. Motor was not running and boat not moving! Looked for it for 30 minutes (his idea), then took him to hospital. Lesson learned, beware of rope!

What model rope was it? The thumb is not a good finger digit to have jacked up. Wish him a solid recovery.

In the rodeo world, it is actually fairly common to see ropers without the end of their thumb. I don't know the particulars but it is similar, you don't do it exactly right and the end of the thumb at the first joint pops off. It is painful, but should actually heal well. Sorry. But, if he hangs around the rodeo crowd, he'll be a stud.

There was a guy here that posted pics of a former thumb that got ripped off by a surf rope.

that is amazing, I lost the ends of 3 of my fingers back in January. I couldn't imagine staying and looking.

Best of luck to him.

Reminds me of the joke about the fella that lost all his fingers in a workshop accident,
the doctor asked him why he didn't bring his fingers with him,
he said its because he couldn't pick 'em up!

thanks for the safety reminder!

bummer, wish him well.

I am not using the new style boarding no streach ropes, I still use the old style polypropolene. I would like to know the rope type and size.

The Texas A&M Aggie was floundering and stabbed his foot with the gig. He went to the doctor for help.

Doc says, "I see the two holes from the gig. What's that third hole from?"

The Aggie replies, "That is where I put the stringer."

What's "Floundering"? I thought that's when you were flopping around, coding out, but that wouldn't make sense. Maybe some type of fishing?

In the old days, we walked with lanterns. I guess today the guides have the expensive shallow water boats plus much improved gigs and lights.

Interesting. Never heard of it before.

They look like really thin fish. Do you eat them? It doesn't look like they would have much meat.
