Overtons?

OK....before everyone jumps on me for trying to use Overtons keep reading.

I am trying ot buy a cover for my Waverunner (now you can jump on me for that instead) SO..simple order from overtons, becasue they had a decent looking one for fairly cheap. $15 shipping, again not a big deal, but then after entering my address, they charge me 11.5% sales tax in addition to the shipping costs!

WTH? There is no Overtons in the state to my knowledge, There is a Gander Mt (sister company) two counties over, but thats the closest. And Tax there would be 8% so where are they getting 11.5% from? I sent an email to customer service yesterday, so far no answer.

I'm pretty sure I wont be doing any business at all with these guys again.

Can't help you on the tax.

I have placed two orders from Overton's and had problems with both orders. Talking to them on the phone didn't help.

I just called to comfirm . Its true if you have a Gander mountain in your state they will Charge you sales tax.

I understandt having to pay sales tax if there is a store in the state. but they are charging 3.5% over the full sales tax at the store location, and in my case all that should apply is state sales tax, (county and city sales tax should not apply) which is around 2.5% I believe, so they are overcharging by 9% :evil:

guess it explains how they manage to keep their listed prices so low. They make up for the cash on the back end.

Here is the breakdown:
Merchandise Subtotal: $135.97
Shipping & Handling: $14.99
Tax*: $15.10
Updated Total: $166.06

I thought, well maybe they are calculating it based on merchandise AND shipping costs (which is still incorrect) and even then it comes out to 10%

ok.......played with it some more and they are charging 10% of the merchandise and shipping combined as sales tax.

Merchandise Subtotal: $25.98
Shipping & Handling: $8.99
Tax*: $3.50
Updated Total: $38.47

Until the states catches them collecting extra sales tax and the not paying it.

I also don't think they can charge sales tax on shipping charges.

They cant.....only on the merchandise total. I'll be calling and talking to a manager there tomorrow and asking for an explanation of their "policies" maybe its as simple as a glitch in the software, I dunno

I ordered a new life jacket from them recently and had to pay sales tax....it just aint right and I will no longer be an overtons customer.

Thats the game plan! she gets tired of just pulling me in the boat, plus its nice to have when there is crowd down at the lake on the holiday weekends. Gets me out of pulling tubes :shock: with the boat.
