    Gas Mileage

Instead of threadjacking sstexan's towing comparision, thought I'd start this one...I have a truck to pull the boat and am thinking of putting a camper shell on it. Anybody do this and see a change in gas mileage? Not sure but I'm thinking it would improve the towing aerodynamics. It would DEFINITELY help with hauling the 'stuff'.

any change will be miniscule that you will not be able to see.

I think this is a location thing, but is a camper shell a topper? I have a topper on my Ram and it made no difference but the storage is great. When I think of a camper shell I think of a pop up camper.

I'm assuming a camper shell as in something that covers the open bed of a pickup but is even to the roof height of the truck.

yeah, sorry for the confusion. I do believe they are called 'toppers' up North.

A topper will improve towing as far as wind drag in the bed and the front of the boat. Not sure if you would actually realize better gas mileage or not. Logically, you would think so, but you are towing a pretty heavy load.

Exactly. My truck is a wind dam as it is. I see a big difference when someone is in front of me breaking the wind (Yellow_Flash_Colorz and when I don't.
